MST Intake Question

There was a thread a while back, when the intake was new, and there were a lot of theories, criticisms of the dyno, etc. Fast forward a bit, has anyone used their intake and if so, what gains have you seen?

Im wondering the same. Im close to ordering the BMS intake. MST looks like it would get just as much heatsoak as BMS if that is a conern. Also MST does not change the inlet pipe which is said to be one of main restrictions. I also would love to hear some more experiences particularly about BMS. There are some interesting tests BMS has conducted on their n54 platform with their DCI intakes and they proved they didnt have hugher IATs. Either way lets here from some folks with either intake systems!!

For what it's worth we continue to ship a few BMS intakes weekly and rarely get any negative feedback on them.

Any other data you can share? Probably going to order in next week or so.

I installed my BMS intakes in December 2019 on my pre-facelift c43, about a week before getting a stage 1 tune.

Anecdotally, I like my BMS intake - but I cannot speak to actual performance increase. I have not dyno’d the car and any gain is too small to register on the butt dyno. I like the increased sound during spool. Also, I have not perceived too much heat soak with mine (popping the hood and doing a hand test after long commutes, stop and go commutes, or after hard driving).

No addl data beyond what has been posted by customers on this and other forums. But another plus, we sponsor MBWorld and are always here to help, answer questions, and be flammed, whenever the need arises.

Shame after all this time there are no before and Dragy or 1/4 mile slips, same day dynos, after having a BMS or other intake fitter.
This is something I did immediately when I first had my car remapped, had updates maps and when I removed by OPFs from the exhaust.
This is the only way to quantify any performance improvement. If people want them just for sound may as well drill holes in the airbox.

Can BMS chime in on if this could help underhood temps and IATs particularly with open element intakes under the hood. I found this on c63 forum it was posted by Zaccomposites(another maker of intake system for c63). They removed a section of the hood seal to allow hot air to flow out of the back. There was some debate about negative pressure and sucking air back in under the hood causing turbulence. BMS would live ti hear any negatives or positives in regards to this. Thanks.

I've dont that on my C43. But it will make a much bigger difference on the C63 due to the hot V layout, that gap is directly behind the turbos.
Our turbos are obviously mounted differently.

Did you notice any difference in engine temp or IATs? Any negatives? How do you like the BMS intake?

We haven't tested it so can't comment one way or the other. Seems easy enough to bend heat shield down and check IAT in the JB4 app before and after during 1/4 mile runs, for example, if you wanted to confirm it helps.

Bend heat shield? Im not talking about the heat shield im talking about the hood liner gasket that they removed to let the heat have an escape route at the back of the hood. You see in the photo the strip of seal removed?

Doesnt BMS offer something similar with BMW platform. Cowl filters? I could be mistaken but isnt the purpose of those to vent heat from the cowl area?
