Miles left in the tank display (anyway to keep on?)
I notice that when I am low on gas and I switch over to the Miles per gallon screen (Range) on the cluster display, after 43, 42 or 41 (I forgot where it switched over), the screen then defaults to "Fuel level low" and takes away the live counter that it was displaying. This sucks because if you are nearing zero you have no way of telling, especially in a emergency situation.
any way around this other than obviously filling up? or some kind of hack or mod through SDS ?

You shouldn't be relying on the fuel gauge to the km/mile, just fill up man...
You cannot run a car on 1km of fuel as what little fuel you have will be sloshing around and won't actually get into your engine even though you theoretically could go 1km. And that is if you have a perfectly calibrated sensor with clean fuel system.
Not to mention that pumps are cooled by running liquids through them (i.e. high pressure fuel pump) and having air in the line is bad for their health.

That range display is an estimate. Car does not know for sure how many miles/kms you have left as more than just the car affects that. Wind, weight, aero dynamics (roof rack, Rudolph nose). Fill up and don't let the car go that low in fuel. Its also not good for the fuel pump which relys on the fuel to keep it cool.

It not good for the fuel pump to suck air or to give it extra work to try to suck fuel thats way on the bottom of the fuel tank. Also, dirt accumulates over time and you are also sucking in dirt. Even if fuel filter does it's job, that's extra wear you are sucking on.

Be nice to your car, fill up around 1/4 tank each time. Your fuel pump will thank you. Even after winter storage I'll run my treated fuel to a little under 1/4 and fill up fresh.

i get anxiety when it doesn't show how many left.
let say it currently show 35 miles left and i know my trip is only 25 miles and I know i'll make it. but when it at running at last gallon (25 miles left), it won't show miles left anymore.

The miles remaining is merely an approximation, and is not meant to be an accurate figure. The real question is; Why do you even wait so long to refill?

Thanks for the reply's. I taking about, you forgot to fill up because you had to jump into the car to rush the wife or kid to the hospital and you got caught up in a thick traffic jam and there are no exits and no rest stops for miles and miles.
Life happens and running the tank to zero is not what I usually do. But its a IF , your caught in such a situation.

it only NOT showing how many miles left when running on last gallon.
if you have more than 1 gallon, you should know if it can make it to your destination or not.

The issue here isn't how someone's habit should change. People do things the way they want and the way they're used to. The issue here is that why does the estimated range of miles remaining disappear when the amount of fuel drops to a certain point? If the car can give you an estimated number of miles remaining with X amount of fuel left in the tank, why can't it continue that estimated number of miles remaining when your fuel drops to 1%? The ask here is why doesn't this car do it when other cars will continue to display mile range all the way until 0%?

Mazda, Toyota, Nissan shows ---- when it's under 50 to 100kms to empty because they do not want to be liable when car suddenly stops at 5kms left.

I'm just saying that there has to be a conscious effort in engineering and development to decide NOT to show a number when the fuel is at a certain percentage. I'm just curious as to why this conscious decision was made. It's completely fine to have left the numbers there for whoever cares about looking at the estimated number of miles remaining. They already have their asses covered by saying that these are "estimated values".

One reason for going very low on fuel, could be the wish to fill premium fuel.
2-3 months ago I started looking for a gas station when the low fuel notification came on. The remaining range was gone on the display with around 70 km left in the tank.
I noted the km on the trip and after 2 stations that was sold out of pure benzine 95, I was lucky on station number 3. (I guess with around 20-30 km left in the tank)
I filled 68.5 liter, so it was to close to comfort, learned a lesson and now I start looking for gas stations when I am around 1/4 full tank.
