Why is Cabrio rear so different?

Do you find it interesting that MBZ went to all the expense to make the rear of the Cabrio so different than the other models? Luckily for us, we do prefer the Cabrio changes.

2018 Mercedes C43 AMG Coupe
Uhh, except that it is not?? Same as coupe without the folding mechanism.

But I do concur that the MB C-class sedan vs coupe is one of the largest changes I've ever seen.

I may be the minority here but I'm not a huge fan of the coupe rears for some reason. I think when I saw the S coupe, it looked good, but the C coupe looked like a "reality" vs "expectation" type downgrade. It doesn't look proportionate to me, and it works for larger vehicles like the GT or S coupes..

Right, same as the coupe, cabriolets are largely coupes with the roof chopped off and structural weight added to make up for the loss of rigidity. Styling-wise they follow the coupe they are based on. Historically a lot of coupes look largely like a 2 door version of the sedan, but manufacturers have caught on to the fact that coupe buyers generally look for bolder and less conservative styling. Coupes that set themselves apart design-wise from the sedan generally sell better, because they feel like an entirely different car. AMG took that a step further with the C63 by designing a unique rear axle for it and giving it a wider rear track and bulging fenders, whereas the sedan keeps the track width and rear axle from the regular C Class, the coupe and cabriolets are also overall wider at the hips compared to the respective sedan and have a wider track. The coupes are meant to be the sportier variant of the platform. It has always bugged me in the past, that many coupes didn't differentiate themselves enough from the sedan. The S Class coupe is a more conservative design. The E Class coupe is unique without a B-pillar. As a coupe buyer I like this visual differentiation. BMW is now trying to do it by giving the new 4-series a massive retro kidney grill. That is more ugly than anything, though, IMO. The overall shape is still very similar to the 3 series, which is a shame.

You have good taste in coupes... miss the sound of those NA V8 Audi's (also don't like the 4-Series look)

So I’ve been informed: It’s the 2-door vs the 4-door models that have different rear ends.

I have a 2019 coupe. Front end looks super nice, but i wish the rear was more squared off like the sedan.

My brother bought an A35 AMG and man that car's rear end looks so good IMO. The tail lights are spot on!

From the back straight on, I love the sedan design but from a 45 angle from the front, the back end looks a bit skinny and weak. I think if the fenders were flared out a bit that would make it more of a presence to match the aggressive front imo. The FL front bumper I think looks wider on the bottom which I like.

I love the look of my Coupe from the rear (any angle in fact), but my kids think it looks a bit weird. All just down to taste I guess.
