Driving in Los Angeles is hazardous!

I was driving on the freeway today in LA and could not avoid an object. Went over it and messed up both my front right and rear right wheels and tires. That was an expensive ride

It appeared to be a small metal box and it was too late to swerve to avoid it. I actually have a short clip on my blackvue can but I am not sure how to attach the video to my post.

Usually there are complaints about the runflats being too stiff on sidewalls and upon impact of pothole, runflats would destroy the rims.

But on your case, the box, however strong it may been, ripped through the tires and on to the rims. Not even regular non-runflats would save your rims.

Did those runflats actually worked out and were you able to drive home or to a service center?

Yes, it looked like a metal box with sharp edges that ripped thru the tires and rims. Fortunately, my local tire shop was able to repair both rims because the OEM MB multispoke black was $1500 each. Plus, I was able to get off the freeway, drove on surface street at 35-40mph back to my local, trust worthly tire shop 10 miles away, so now I have second thought about the non runflat Michelin like others on here have suggested. Without the run flats, I would have to wait for the tow truck on freeway side in 100 degrees yesterday.

Yup, the thing with run flat is that they are very useful for situations like this. Everything else about them in terms of ride quality, handling, grip, etc. are subpar compared to summer performance tires, but they do save you time in situations like this. You'll just have to decide if it's worth it to ride on better tires in every way and then once in a while deal with the inconvenience of calling a tow truck if something happens.

How good was the repair? though bent rims can be repaired, I do not think they are ever perfectly 100 percent round again? any vibrations after the fix?

those are the only set that haven't been updated with the thick outer edge. weakest rims I have ever owned. I actually think you might have just gotten away with destroyed tires if you had different wheels.

I didn't notice any vibrations today after the fix. Went on a short freeway ride and surface street.

Yup Gotta Love LA

I hit a pothole one evening and blew out the left front and rear, but didn't damage the rims. But on another evening on the 10 fwy, I don't know what it was I ran over but it cracked the right front rim. Had it fixed for $100 and do far so good. This happened while I was driving on the 91. Replacing it wasn't as costly as I thought it would be at only $70

Yeah i know. Tough decision. It seems to me that my tires blown up accidents happened either late at night or in the middle on a hottest days in LA.

The damage in the picture happened on your front grill right, not on the wheel.

Yes, these were 3 different incidents. The pothole i first hit was on a flooded street back in April and blew out the left front tire completely and broke the spine of the steel belts that ran through the left rear tire. Ended up having to replace all 4 tires because of it. The debris i ran over that cracked my front rim happened driving on the 10 fwy at night. I only caught a glimpse of what i thought was a space saver spare tire and rim. By the time is saw it, there was no way to avoid. Had it repaired about a month or so ago and so far no issues in repairing it. And then a few weeks ago, not sure where i was but caught a rock that nailed the front camera and shattered the outside lens. Without it, the image was blurry. But found a brand new one on Ebay for $70.
