About to pull the trigger on a 2017 C43 - Advice?
Hi guys,
I have a 2017 C43 sedan in Cavansite blue that I am about to pull the trigger on. It has 60,000 kms.
I test drove it and there was a bit of vibration in the steering wheel at 80-100km/h. The Dealer just put brand new rubber on the car (which I found a bit odd as that must’ve been expensive). Does anyone have any suggestions on what I need to look for on the car? Any suggestions on what the vibration could be? They are going to realign and balance the wheels and I get a 90 day warranty from The dealer and will also extend the Mercedes Warranty.
- Brakes are supposedly at 8mms left (which means 80% life I believe)
- just had an oil change
i appreciate any advice!

There are a couple of threads around the vibration and few users on here, myself included, who have experienced it. I swapped out to non runflats and it helped, but it’s driveshaft issue. They are likely not going to be able to do anything for you, as it’s been tough to diagnose conclusively for most dealers. To be honest I don’t even notice it anymore, and as I said non runflats help. Hope this helps with your decision.

I should probably pass on it then. I shouldn't spend that much on a car that I want to keep for years and have it shake on the highway constantly. I think I'm going to test drive it again and decide...
Is it all C43's or just some? I will continue to look at what else is on the market then.

Honestly the vibration we have seen threads on here is more of a chassis vibration not the steering wheel. For what its worth I bought my 2017 out of my lease and I absolutely love the car, and have no regrets about committing to it long term, I will also add if your test driving it on those tires in winter weather the ride is going to be exaggerated as runflats are not meant for cold. PS I also have a set of winter rims and tires from my brother in law c43 coupe that only have about 20k on them for sale if you want. PM me if interested.

It isn't all C43 cars. I have not noticed vibration in steering wheel. Maybe I am just Comfortably Numb?
Regarding new tires. That might be the 3rd set of tires on the car. The C43 tires wear quickly due to negative camber. My non-run flats lasted roughly 25,000 miles. I think it is unlikely the first set lasted 60,000 km.

When you say chassis vibration can you elaborate where you hear the vibration happening? Do you happen to have a video or sound of your car? I would really like to know if it's the same as what I heard. I really want this car!
I noticed that on the test drive it basically sounded as if there was a flat in the front when driving at 80-100 and it was just a very fast 'thud, thud, thud'. I assume you meant to say run flats 'aren't' meant for the cold?

That makes sense, I understand they do not last long, but I do not think a dealer would put brand new $2k tires on a used car right before they sell it! It seems to me like they were trying to resolve the vibration with new tires and figured out it was more...

Also, look for static feedback noise behind you while test driving at 80kmh. Fix is new differential. I also got new driveshaft done at later time but didn't notice significant difference then getting the new diff install which solve the noise.
Imo, you gonna be the guinea pig to get this car fix under warranty if there is still factory warranty on it. Buy it if you truly love it. Else, you gonna be pulling your hair.

I haven't had any issues. Based on other posts with wheel vibrations and driveshaft noises, it is a real challenge to get dealers to resolve the issue.
Unless you get the dealer to resolve your vibration issue concern prior to purchase, I think you would be best to walk away. It doesn't get any easier to have it fixed after you purchase.

vibration is likely from the wheels/tires
those are the weakest wheels ever fit to a car that weighs nearly 4,000 lbs. I had 3 bent wheels with less than 10k on my c450 (same wheels). I went aftermarket and never had alignment, premature tires wear, or vibration issues after that.

maybe the old tires have no more treads left.

Ended up going to an actual Mercedes dealer and I fell in love with this Coupe. Just put a deposit today and will go tomorrow to seal the deal. Test drove it and no issues from what I could tell. Very happy 😄
