2020 C43

Picked up my new ride a couple days ago. It was a loaner with 2,200 miles, but i got a good lease deal and the car has lots of options including the performance exhaust and saddle brown leather, which plays beautifully off the lunar blue. I hope I’ve mastered all the tech before i turn the car back in. Lol

I love the saddle brown interior. I had my broker look all over for it.

Start/Stop

The whole stop/start is new to me. Doesn’t really bother me, but when they get together to invent these tech upgrades, do they give even the slightest thought to whether or not people want it?

I don't like it either and I hate that it turns itself back on whenever the car is turned off then on again. I think they force the automatic stop/start feature to boast higher MPG numbers, because the also factor that in to get the car's average MPG from the factory. Kind of dumb that we have to suffer from this for what's probably 1mpg or 2mpg at the most IF you're stopped for longer than a couple minutes. The spark plugs are supposed to be made to handle the repeated stop/start but I personally still don't like the idea of it.

One of the reasons why I decided to keep my car was because of the performance seats in designo nappa saddle brown! They stopped offering it in that combination by the time my lease was up. So, I just kept it.

Shutting off the stop/start function is the second thing I do each time I get into my car (first being shutting traction control off).

WOW, what beautiful seats. Yeah, i can understand that. And there’s a thing in life that once you’ve had the best of something, anything less doesn’t quite cut it and seems like settling. And you can never judge comfort right away. I Had an 86 Porsche 911. Leather seats were real solid and stiff. But i found out I could drive for hours and not get uncomfortable.

I think the Start/Stop is more of a measure for CO2 emissions than MPG.

I love the black and red contrast of mine, but the brown leather looks absolutely stunning!

Haha yep! Turn car on, toggle to Individual, click start/stop button. Daily routine (well when it's not COVID times)

Burmester

I must admit I don’t understand the negative comments about the sound system. But then again I’ve owned many high end cars over the years and no matter how good the stereo, there were always comments about how it was just ok, or total crap.

Will do, and thanks for the tip! For now I think I’ll put some more miles on the car until I get to the…that’s enough of this, stage.

It doesn't stick on Individual mode when the car is turned off then on though. If I'm going to click into Individual once, I might as well just click the start/stop button once.

Easy turn off

With the button to turn it off right by the controller, it’s not an issue. I leave it on most of the time while casually driving.

In a word, no. It's not for you, the customer. it's for helping MB meet the CAFE fuel mileage requirement. Few features have enraged MB customers as much as this one. Back in 2015, when my previous MB, a 2015 C300 (W205), was new, MBWorld was full of posts demanding to know how to turn it off permanently. Also, offers of devices that promised to do so.

So what, not even the dealer can permanently disable this?

It is possible. Depends on how much you hate it to the point you want to spend $200+ on it.
For example: This amazon module:
Amazon Amazon
...Another way, which is free but I don't recommend is just pulling a certain fuse. Can't remember which one but I do remember however, the engine revs higher during idle probably cuz of something to do with an auxiliary malfunction after the fuse was removed. The fuse method is probably not healthy for the car either.
If I find the original post I will update here.
Edit 1: found a cheaper option not sure if this any good however:

I don't even notice it (either in my current 2020 C43 or in my previous 2015 C300). In both cars, by the time I complete pressing the gas pedal to the desired level, the engine has started and is pulling. The design of the starter gear train has taken into account the extra wear. You can make turning it off part of your muscle memory starting sequence, if you want.
