C450 vs C43 Better Buy

New member here…currently driving a Lexus GS350 & thinking of passing that car over to my while I look for a C-class.

I’ve done research over the past weeks on the differences between a C450 & a C43.

Have a couple options in my area: a C450 fully loaded with 49k miles for $33k or a 2017 C43 with 47k miles for $38k. The C43 has the night package, performance exhaust.

Feedback on the better option?

C43 Coupe
Having performance exhaust automatically makes it a no brainer

Most of us like the sound of the performance exhaust, there are some that doesn't like it though which is fine. I recommend test driving two C43s one with performance exhaust and another with non-performance exhaust to see if you prefer one over the other. As for the C450, it is basically the same car with a different transmission, so there is a 7G tronic in the C450 while the C43 has a 9G tronic. The C43 transmission may be slightly smother and may be slightly less sluggish. Performance wise, due to different gear ratios, the C43 may accelerate faster than the C450 because its lower gears are shorter. The 4MATIC ratios, although isn't a big difference, are different on the C450 (33:67) vs C43 (31:69). C450 on the other hand may sound better than a C43 without performance exhaust.

I prefer the 7 speed in the 450.

I don't care about the performance exhaust.

2017 c43
After test driving both The C43 is noticeabley quicker due to shorter gearing. I personally like the 9 performance exhaust. I like a fast quiet ride. I chose the c43

2017 C43 AMG
i would go with the 43 for a few reasons. If this is a daily, the 9g is a better trans for fuel economy but also performance. second, the 43 is a current model, it has current name and personally the official amg naming IMO holds value better. performance exhaust is a must. Gives the car dual personality. can be quiet when needed or loud. Also there are things throughout the car that have been updated. The 43 is closer to the facelift in terms of underlying hardware control systems fuel pumps etc. Its updated in many ways than just what the high level consumer brochure says.
