Hey everyone! Newbie to the Benz world here. I’ve owned BMW’s in the past and decided to look into getting a daily driver while my E63 M6 hangs out in the garage as my weekend whip. Initially I was looking at the Infiniti Q60 Red Sport. I test drove one for a day and found it to be on the cheap side. The interior did not have the look or feel of a $40-50k car which led me to consider a ‘17-19 C43 AMG coupe which is not far off in price range.

My only beef with the C43 is the skimpy wheel/tire setup. A beast like this should’ve been wrapped in 285’s in the rear with 255’s in the front on 20” rims. Or at the very least 275’s in the rear. My question is can a 295/20 rear 255/20 front setup be accomplished on stock suspension? I’m willing to compromise keeping 19” rims but at minimum would want 285’s on the rears. I did research this forum for a few hours, I found the widest is possibly 265’s on the rears 245’s front? If anyone is running 20’s or 19’s with at least 285 rears I’d love to hear your setups.

So are you not satisfied with the wheel size and tire width due to pure aesthetics or do you actually think that the car needs more grip and an extra inch larger wheels and a bit wider tires will make a difference? I've never once heard any one having any issues with grip or wheel spin with the C43. Not even when they brake boost it with traction off.

Why? It's AWD, so it doesn't need fat rear tires. It doesn't even really need the staggered setup it comes with given that it's not that rear biased. Only about 60% goes to the rear and it doesn't have the 2WD drift mode like the E63S and GT63S. Audi models, other than the R8 which is heavily rear-biased, for example have square setups. My RS5 had 275s all-around with also 60% going to the rear, but that was a 450 HP car. C43 with 385 HP and only 384 lb of torque doesn't need 285s, not even remotely. If you want fat rear tires, get the C63S. The coupe comes with 285s in the rear, which it actually needs with over 500 lbs of torque going to the rear wheels. Some are putting as wide as 305s on the C63 to get more traction, but wider tires are heavier and you need a wide enough wheel, which is also heavier.

And even with that I hear many (especially the tuned c63s) are spinning through the first three gears…

Purely for aesthetics. The rear looks muscular but then you see the skinny tires and it really ruins the look. Maybe because I’m so used to a wider stance as I’m running 305’s on my M6 and I think those barely look adequate.

The C63S was my favorite choice. It would’ve been comparable in horsepower to my M6 so I wouldn’t be downgrading any power in that regard. But unfortunately it’s a bit out of reach for my budget unless I plan on financing one and going into debt. I can buy the C43 outright and not have to worry about a note. Maybe in a couple of years when the ‘17-2020 C63’s depreciate more I’ll take another look at them.

So I decided to go with a C63s instead of a C43. I have a few on my watchlist and hope to close on one soon!
