2018 c43 PE Exhaust Question

Hey, I test drove the c43 today and noticed that it didn’t have the same pops and crackles that other c43’s have. My friends both own a c43 stock with PE and the pops up shifting are insane, but this one sounds much quieter and not loud compared to the others. What could be the issue here?

Could be the way the vehicle was driven prior, if the previous owner driven it calmly, there might be no pops and bangs.

Another possible cause will be due to limp mode or soft limp mode.

Lastly, it could be caused by a stored code although it is not cutting power, it might be limiting the function when the ECU decides to dump unburned fuel in the exhaust that produces these crackles and pops.

By not loud compared to others, can you video clip it for us to hear?

Does the car you test drove have the PE option?

Good call, OP mentioned that their friends have PE but did not mention if the test driven vehicle had PE.

Hey, so it does have the PE exhaust. On another note the car has been sitting at the dealer for 3 months. I looked at the service record and it seems that this c43 has gone in for fuel related issues before. The link below is the CARFAX which shows the service records. You can see that it’s had issues with the fuel system, but looks like it’s been addressed. I wonder if that has anything to do with it?
I’ve looked at some other posts about c43 not having power. Maybe I should go and check to see if it’s actually getting the full horsepower? Maybe it’s in soft limp mode due to battery drain because of it being on the lot for a long period of time.

Plug a scanner in and see if you get any codes. https://mbworld.org/forums/c450-c43-...ml#post8555710
You could also check the Engine Data screen near DYNAMIC SELECT to confirm if you have full horsepower available.

My pleasure. Definitely recommend a PPI (pre-purchase inspection), it saves a lot of headaches.
