Transfer Case fluid

Planning to flush my transmission and drain/re-fill my transfer case. I bought the FCPeuro transmission service kit below but need verification on what transfer case fluid I should be using. Looking at https://operatingfluids.mercedes-ben...egory/gear-oil, the transmission fluid requires MB 236.17 approved fluids but it appears transfer case uses MB 236.15 approved fluids? See screenshots below. Can anyone please confirm this?

I did a tranny and TC flush at the same time and followed the same specs. Kind of a pain to have to source two different bottles, but I was told you can just use the .17 for the TC as well by an indie tech. Since I already purchased the two separately, might as well follow the sheet.

Just FYI, you will need a pump and preferably a special plug tool to re-fill the transmission.

If you have access to STAR/Xentry, you can test the fill level or follow the guided procedure on the computer that also activates a pump to release air from the trans. Too high tech for my shop and I'm pretty sure they skipped that step!

80,000 km later and my car drives fine.

I just brought my car to MB as I did not want to risk messing anything up, plus you need Xentry to speak the TCU of the transmission to make sure everything is okay with it after you refill it. I would not risk taking on such a task on a complicated transmission which seems easy to replace the fluids except you'd also need to remove the fluid from the toque converter and will also take some time.

I appreciate the info, Ill go ahead and purchase a bottle of 236.15 just incase. If the fluid comes out blue, Ill use it. Otherwise Ill use my 236.17 fluid that I already have and return the 236.15.

I purchased the oil drain plug, filling adapter, and oil drain key so I should be good to go. Dont have access to Xentry, just gonna keep track of how much fluid Im removing, refill with additional 500ml, get fluid up to temp, overfill, run through the different gears, and let fluid drain out of pan at at the correct key position until it's at correct level.

Yes I am aware of the torque converter, appreciate the reminder though. Looks pretty simple; just turn torque converter using the crankshaft until drain screw appears, remove drain screw, drain, and replace fluid.

I see, anyways you have everything researched thoroughly, other forum members here also provided valuable information. I think you are good to go with the fluid change.

I realized my transfer case fluid might be overdue, I recently came across this thread on someone doing it on a GLC 43, I thought it shares the same fluid, guess not.

For those who are interesting in doing the fluid of the transfer case, it might help: https://mbworld.org/forums/glc63s-gl...ification.html

On a side note, please let me know when you all did your transfer case fluid: mileage and/or year. I should take an opportunity to do all the diff fluids as well, we have 3 diffs this car right?

I've only changed my rear diff fluid on my car, to my knowledge none of the diffs have been done on my wife's care (at 125K miles).

Side note, I used a lube on my rear diff that isn't spec'd for an MB gear lube spec. I wanted a more robust lube with a less wide range of viscosities, and a full synthetic, because the car sees several 1/4 mile passes a year.

I used Ravenol 75w-110 TDG.

So far no complaints.

Sweet, I might try that next time I do my rear diff fluid!
Thanks for your recommendation and I am glad the two C 400s are treating you well.
Thanks for chiming in.
