2017 Mercedes-Benz C43 (W205) Engine Issues

Hey guys,

So last year around December I brought my car to a shop to do the ambient lighting and they told me that I had a long crank and a check engine light all that due to a crankshaft/timing issue inside of the engine and also that most of these cars gets these problems at high mileage, they quoted me at 1,800$.

My car has around 95k miles on it and I got it with around 72k (the problem was already there), long cranks, sometimes the car won’t start up and I would need to start it again (1 out of 20 startups), etc so it wasn’t that annoying to be real, so I kept driving it, until this last week that the battery kept dying, so it went out of power like 5 days ago and since then I’ve parked it.

So yesterday I went to the dealership to get a new battery and just like that, I went home and I placed the battery in and connected it, everything seem great, electrical side was okay but when I tried to turn on the vehicle this was the outcome. (VIDEO ATTACHED)

What you guys think what’s happening here?
I get these codes everytime I connect a OBD Code Detector:

- P0018: Crankshaft/Timing Issue
- P0442: Small Leak in the EVAP
- P0456: Small Leak in the EVAP

Long crank can be caused by many things, bad battery, bad starter, bad fuel pump, bad camshaft adjuster (?).

Have you seen the video? The car is actually not starting and the sound and interaction is in the attached video.

I ended up finding the video and downloaded but the video does not play for me, might still need you to upload to youtube or some cloud storage platform and linking it over.

I see, I also have an android, I don't have an iphone so I can't view the video, will need to wait for OP to upload to youtube.

Still no luck opening the link, it is stuck in an infinite loading loop, I am currently outside of my home country Canada so maybe it is the speed of my internet but doesn't explain that I have no lag issues with youtube. I will keep trying but the best is if you upload to youtube OP.

The video finally loaded, first time hearing this one on any M276 but it does sounds like the camshaft teeth (might be wrong) not able to engage, something slipping and something grinding.

The common M276 camshaft adjuster issue is usually rattle on startup but that is already fixed since the 2017 model year C 43.

I had that same rattle too when starting up, what you think it is and how much you expect me paying out?

Depends to be honest as it varies greatly, if getting an independent to do the work it will be way cheaper. That rattle issue should had resolved for the 2017 C 43 though. There is a different rattle but that is caused by low engine oil level, did you make sure the level is correct? Use the datacard and check for something called oil offset amount as well.
