Center stereo speaker rattle

When I play "jazz type" of music that involves heavy bass, the center speaker on the dash rattles.... Does anyone else have this problem?

Yeah I get this too. Downloaded an audio tone generator app and noticed it happens are 220hz to about 280hz (at random points between). I noticed it during a phone call or TV when there was talking at certain points and it was quite frequent. Doesn't really happen with music except instrumental and jazz pieces.

May contact the dealer as I do have a way to consistently reproduce it. How did you go with yours?

The center speaker in the loaner 2016 C300 that I have (my MY16 C63S is in for a second try at fixing the creaking dash) rattles heavily; especially when listening to news talk or sports talk AM radio. Quite embarrassing for any car let alone a Mercedes. I'm sure the dealers are just as embarrassed by these quality problems.

I actually haven't had the time to take it to the dealer yet. But I certainly will. I'm still in the break in period and have not been able to put as much miles ad I would have wanted to.

This problem is pretty rampant. My car has been with the dealership 24 days out of the 11 months I've owned it and Mercedes has told me they can't fix it. It's awful.

Hmmm.... that's not very reassuring.... Was there a reason as to why they couldn't fix it? Was it a speaker issue or mounting issue?

If it's a speaker issue, then I assume MB has a good gripe with Burmester to fix. If it's a mounting issue, actually, MB should STILL have an axe to grind with Burmester. They're supposed to be the "experts" at this and should have been keen on proper mounting...

yes, I have this rattle when some higher pitched sounds go on. My dealer couldn't replicate it, its also from the center speaker.

They don't know how to fix it. For me it's all speakers including the center one. Bermester is silent about it. On one forum a guy said he spoke to Bermester and they were curious what was going on but that was all. It sucks.

Darn it... what we have here is a potentially serious unfixable problem.... I found the posts in the normal W205 forums:

I literally just came back from MB earlier today after they fixed the issue.

Apparently there was a pin missing around the side of the speaker and so they just ordered a brand new speaker. Problem solved!! i would bring it to the dealer.

ill quote exactly what they said on the repair sheet. wasn't a pin. oops.

"performed front speaker test, found rattle coming from speaker, check and inspect, found speaker also missing a grommet. WARR. Front speaker faulty and missing grommet, order new speaker and replace speaker."

there were numerous other rattles that were also taken care of very well. no more noises.

"Customer states there is a rattle coming from dash and command screen while driving"
"felt strip installed"
"front cover on center console replace with electronic gear selector"

.....apparently they replaced all the plastic on my dash including around the instrument panel and installed felt tape in all of the creases that make contact with the dash...

"Command display replace"
"Glove compartment remove, install felt tape and insulation"

the dealership also took apart all of the doors to secure cables inside that would rattle when riding over bumps. the dealership did a fantastic job and now there are ZERO noses when i am driving.

The inside speaker in the loaner 2016 C300 that I have (my MY16 C63S is in for a brief moment attempt at altering the squeaking dash) rattles intensely; particularly when listening to news talk or games talk AM radio.

In a perfect world, every new car would get a similar treatment. Well at least high end cars. In 2016, they simply shouldn't rattle if all it takes is a bit of felt and some quality control in the assembly line....

The sedan is built in Alabama; quality control is questionable.

I would disagree with that statement. I have seen many complaints the come from the German built cars and more wind noise problems over there.
Engines all come from Germany and all soft wear so most of the CEL problems are from that.

Also it looks like the so called dash creaking is struts and after replacement it goes away and that is not a build problem.

I also noticed in the owners forum that there is an apparent fix related to the struts as you mentioned. I'm experiencing the same issue but I'm not too worried about getting it resolved. As for the build quality, I would assume both Alabama and Germany are held to the same production standards.

You shouldn't assume...

All the more reason to avoid PFL and first MY's.

Anybody get a definitive repair done for this? My center speaker also rattles on my 2016 C63S and of course I could not replicate the issue when I brought it in to the dealer. Not an issue with playing it too loud or bassy tracks. Its random and annoying as hell.

I can replicate mine at will and stop it by placing my hand on top of the speaker grill.

Thank you so much for bumping this thread. I just got my cart which I bought from another part of the state and the second they took it off the trailer, the car had this rattle. It is absolutely the worst rattle I've ever seen in a car. I was trying to get my car in ASAP to the dealer to get it fixed. I did buy some felt tape to give it a go myself if I have time this weekend.
