Road & Track C63 450hp
I dont have the magazine with me, but in the 2005 november road and track, there is an article about the E90 M3. The article says it will be 425hp to compete with the Audi 420hp RS4 and the Mercedes 450hp C63.
450 is great! because 400hp out of a 6.3 liter V8 = WASTE OF SPACE OF WEIGHT!! 450hp is definetly better.

I told everybody back in August that a C63 was coming to town and everybody said I was full of it.It is a necessity to combat the new M3 coming out.

i saw that article as well.
as with the v8 sc motor used in e55/sl55 you can easily choke it down and reduce power from 510 to 450hp for differing applications.
however, the auto tranny will suck hp so an e90 m3 with smg may be faster. it will certainly be a better car to go racing (racing for me- road not drag). i wish they were making a 4 dr...........
agree the e amg will trump the c amg no marketing question there.
but we'll see in due course.......let the hp wars rage....

and for the record, if the hp is only 400 or 420, it will NOT be 6.3 liters. it might still recieve that designation. but it will NOT actually be 6.3 liters.
mark my words
edit: i have never seen you post regarding this. this isnt an attack on you. just speaking my mind

IF the new 6.2L V8 makes it into an upcoming C-AMG car, it will definitely be "detuned" (or whatever you call it) to make LESS than the 510 HP it makes in the upcoming ML63. 400-450HP sounds about right and properly competes with other upcoming cars in the class (Audi RS4, BMW M3, etc).
If you read magazines, there are stories about the new C-AMG car having a retuned 5.5L V8 and other stories about stuffing the 6.2L V8 into it. All speculation with no solid details.
Time will tell. We now know that the upcoming S550 will come with a new 4-valve 5.5L V8 which will make about 380HP. Maybe AMG will tweak that new engine to make over 400HP to put into the new C-AMG? Anything is possible.

wasnt there a time...
during 98-02, That ALL AMG's had the same motor? the 5.5 litre? The european W202, the CLK, the E, The S, The CL, The ML, The G...
Now AMG has developed a completely "in house" motor. The 6.3. Which shares no parts with any other MB motor. I believe AMG will only use this motor now for all its productions. be it normally aspirated, turbo charged, de-tuned, etc... It will also be cheaper for them and more streamlined for production purposes.
The new C class AMG will have the 6.3. will it be detuned? of course. will it lead its class in hp? yes. 420 to 450hp? I would hope so. Look at the competition? european or domestic. THE SRT division for Dailmer has 420hp for most of their vehicles. IN the next 12 to 18 months, we'll know for sure.

Question: Will the 7-Speed be going in these new AMGs?

if you build one engine and detune it for different applications that may work - in that the economies of scale will allow use in a c class amg without a hefty price increase.
i often wonder why a clk55 amg has to cost that much more than a c55 amg......tooling costs to recover from the lower volume clk? or simply driven by what the market will pay?

If you go by the current weight of each car, and assume they will stay that weight, the C weighing 3540lbs and the E weighing 4087lbs and then divide it by the power of each 450hp for the C and 510hp for the E the C has a better power to weight ratio 7.8 vs 8.0. Also it could be possible that the E could have less then 510hp, given if that's the max power the 63 engine can put out right now, because the 510hp could be in the S-class so the E might have between 490-500hp. Also, what if MBUSA increases the price of the C63 by like 10K or more over the current C55. Is it that unreasonable to think that it might "stock" be as fast or slightly faster then the E63 even if they aren't the same power rating.
The M3 is faster than the M5 isn't it? But I bet over 90mph, the M5 will trounce the M3. Probably the same case in this scenario...

lol....u would have to fit the clk with f1 style discs- you know the carbon fiber ones that take 3 months to make and cost $10,000 per.

This is great - this could be a discussion about sports, politics, religion, anything that people are fanatical about!!!
We are truly diehards to be spending our time wondering what kind of engine MB will put in their next car, who they will market it to, and who would buy it. I love it!!!
