New C55 and C63!!!

From CAR magazine UK, they confirm that there will be a new C55 (204) with 388 bhp AND a new C63 (204) AMG with 481 bhp. The C55 will continue with the same engine while the C63 will be the new 6.3 (6.2) engine. I guess MB are covering all their bases.

SOHC engine will go. So it won't be used on the new generation C-Class.

Surely they'll have to detune the 63 anyway as even at 481bhp that's mighty close to the E's 510.
I doubt they will make a C550 as that would be a kick in the teeth for 55 owners, though they did it to the CLK so who knows.
hp is raising year on year and everyday cars are getting seriously quick.

btw, nice choice on the 550i Marc32. A real sleeper. You'lll miss your AMG though won't you?

There will be no C550 , no one will want to pay a S-class priced engine on a cheap C-class. C55 is welcome only because of the famous C AMG DTM.
CLK63 is not quite an 'upgrade' of the CLK55 but it is an 'up-class'.
We can't say CLK DTM AMG is an 'upgrade' of CLK55 right?

I have no clue why they would care about the C63 being as powerful or as fast as the E class. Why shouldn't your smallest sport sedan be your fastest sports sedan? By that logic, the strongest Benz would have to be that minivan travesty that they are selling. They should focus on the M3 and RS4 when powering the C class.

Of course, I really don't know how you can put 500HP through the rear wheels of a small car effectively. Traction control will be killing most of the fun. Personally, I think the HP wars are a waste of energy. I'd rather see them focus on light weight designs.

2005 Renntech C class
I have a feeling they'll go with the C63. The more 6.2L engines they produce the cheaper the parts become so it only makes sense

481hp...that would be a krazy ride

If MB is smart they would only produce the C63. For those able to afford this kind of car they will not look at the c55, after all we HP junkies are looking for power.

I believe they will detune the C63 to about 480 HP and put a much higher price tag then the C55.

my 2 cents

I have no idea where they would get that there will be two AMG versions of the next C-Class - total nonsense. The C63 will arrive at the same time as the SLK63 - model year 2008 (or 2009 in the U.S.) with about 440hp. NO way they're going to give the C63 the full 5xx hp.

doesn't matter, a C class with 481HP will probably be quicker/faster than the E63 with the full 510HP anyways.... keep the HP wars going!

That would be a sight to see since MB has never put there top level V8 engine in a non amg c-class. Let me guess it will be priced between $40-50K. Personally I don't think such a thing will happen. It's wishful thinking though.

Logically, no one will pay for the price of a S class V8 engine on an outgoing generation W203. And no, does not make sense to give two V8 engines to the W203. To beat 335 's 305hp, Benz can come up with a supercharged DOHC V6 which can be even better than the C32's. However, I will not be surprised if W204 gets a 388hp V8 treat and then, this means C63 will be at least 440hp - and this makes my next mid sedan AMG more pricy!

This thread is as good as any other.........I bet they only go with the 6.3...they made a point of making it small enough to fit inside the c-class, and two variations makes no sense. I also don't think the 5.5 would fit in the c-class, unless they make more dramatic changes than I am expecting. Given the weight and size of that engine, it really does not make much sense.

$40k is approx £21.2k ...in the UK that's not enough to buy a C180 (4 cylinder 143bhp) Classic (base spec with NO options) - that costs £22k.

You're lucky bunnies in the US!!

right, when almost 99% of the population knows this is another journalistic bullocks, there's little else to discuss.

Sorry but the US is a lot cheaper on almost everything you find in the UK. Cars, TVs, Stereos, Cameras, Computers,Toys. Are stuff costs like half of what your stuff does. I'm sure if MB did offer the C180 here it would be priced around $12-$14K base.

Wonder will the 2008 SLK63 be a new generation or a facelift?
