I hate the C63!!

This is my first post, though I have been lurking the C63 forums for a few days now. I've gotta tell ya, the more I hear about this car the more pissed off I get. I am trying soooooo hard not to want one and I'm having a terrible time accomplishing this goal.

I currently drive a pretty modified '05 Cadillac CTS-V and I have a profound love/hate relationship with it. I love the power (about 450hp/400tq at the rear wheels - good for 116mph trap in the 1/4), I love the 6-spd manual and I love the handling for a car this size. The price was also hard to beat as well as the cost of aftermarket mods to this LS6 motor. However, I hate the cheapy interior, hate the rattles and most of all, hate the fact that I've gone though 3 rear differentials in the two years I've owned it.

I've been trying to "do the right thing" and buy American when I feel the product is worthy of my hard-earned $$. The next CTS-V comes out in late '08 and is supposed to have 500+hp and have GM's best interior ever produced (which isn't saying much). I was sure that I'd give GM another shot at making me a car a bit closer to "perfection" but now that the C63's specs are out and about I'm thinking about switching nameplates.

I guess the point of this post is this: Please try to tell me why I WOULDN'T want a C63. It just seems to have all the things I love about cars...

Wink Buy The C63 AMG

It will be very hard to convince you not to buy the C63 because it has everything a performance car should have.

- It's got an awsome 6.2L engine that is "easily" upgradable to 550 hp
- It is much lighter than any of the other 63 models (except when the SLK comes out)
- It looks amazing.
- You will finally be able to switch off ESP completely or choose from 3 different settings.
- Nice interior and exterior.
- Very impressive handling (that's a first for a Benz usually).
- And it's an AMG

I say wait until you test drive one and I'll guarantee you'll forget about the CTS-V in a matter of minutes.....

Dont get me wrong, I like the c63.
Ok, here's a few quirks for this amg $70k.
The interior is plastic looking.
The nav/mm slide system doesnt flow.
The dog ear side mirrors.
No rear wheel fender flares.
Just go read up on the w204 thread for reviews of the new c300/350 experiences for what to expect as quality build to performance.

However, the c63 is better than any caddy V, my .02

I've looked at the RS4 already and I'm not very impressed for the $$. If I move on to another car I would like one that is faster stock or can be upgraded "easily" to be faster. My modified Caddy can easily walk a stock RS4. The RS4's engine seems to already be maxed out and mods are ridiculously priced. Further, the AWD just kills the fun-factor for me. Getting sideways is just too much damn fun. It's also quite heavy for a relatively smaller car due to the AWD.

comparing stock to modded really doesn't say much as well.

No, and that guy from Streetfire was a tool in the video. If your car went into "safe mode" would you proceed to drive it for 50 miles? Cadillac's roadside service would have picked him and his car up. As far as most of us on the Caddy forums are concerned the guy should pay out-of-pocket for any damage he created by trying to drive a car that was trying to prevent further damage to itself. Most of us beat the hell out of these cars at the racetrack and don't encounter his situation. It was unfortunate to the whole Caddy community that this guy had so much access to the web.

The reason I mentioned the stock RS4 to the modded Caddy is that if I were to buy the RS4 I would pretty much be stuck with the existing power since it isn't as mod-friendly as the Caddy or the C63. Because of that, it would always be a step-down in terms of power. Everything else about the car would be an upgrade...though it should be for the price. From what I've read, the C63 is going to be an aftermarket's dream.

The RS4 is a dog power wise.

Go for the C63. But test drive it and chk it out thoroughly when it comes out to draw your own conclusion.
You will only miss having a manual shift, but even the paddle shifters may make you forget about the CTS-V. You will also be able to mod the hell out of the C63. Say good bye to the M6 and M3!

The more I think about the C63, the more I want it! But is the C-class boot large enough for baby stuff? We are having our first in Jan, and would like to get a car that is baby friendly. I already have a Aston Martin V8 Vantage that isn't exactly family friendly, so I would like to buy one that is a bit friendlier.

Congrats! I have a 1-month old baby boy and that is also part of the reason why I want something different. A high torque, high weight manual car like my CTSV is very difficult to drive smoothly. A little too much throttle input results in a jerky 1-2 and 2-3 shift. Baby boy's head might flop around and, well, that's just not good.

Many people here think it's merely a chip swap to get a similar HP and TQ as the bigger brothers, E63, CLK63, etc. since they are all the same engine.

It's not impossible to drop a supercharger into a C350.

I've added superchargers to my last two cars and love the powerband provided by them. Most of the time, however, I don't need all that power. I'm thinking that a nice 100 shot of nitrous in the C63 will suffice for most situations. How does the 6.3 hold up to nitrous and/or boost?

I'm sorry I';m a total noob here, how much would the cost be about for a supercharger? would that void the warranty? any other options to boost the hp in a C350 '08?

Usually Merc is not for the hardcore and AMG not different, but this C63 may prove to be different with ESP fully off. You should check it out and see for yourself.

I can't afford one but guess this is a one step forward for AMG.

A modded C63 on juice sounds very tempting. I'd go for it, you have the best of everything with this car.

Of course it would void the MB warranty, but you could find an aftermarket company willing to take it on. Insurance costs in the UK are prohibitive, however. If you want speed, a C350 is not the place to be and the idea of boosting one is frankly ridiculous.

I feel your pain.. I plan to drop my E55 for the C63

but I'm still thinking about the 335i coupe with tunning.. I can't shake it off.

here my reasons for the C63.
engine is under rated and with so much room for natural power
no more kompressor, means no more heating issues like my C32 and E55
the lightest AMG sedan
the best looking sedan aside from (S65)
The interior is not great but very sporty (look at the seats and steering wheel)
better front suspension (parts from the CLK Black series)
LSD available with 19's
7 spd auto (manual would be nice.. but I have to let my wife drive it)
better brakes
better weight distribution

price will start around $63k..

now the 335 coupe is in my radar for a few reasons.
V2 tunning (arond 380 RWHP+)
love the look
cheaper than my E55 or C63

but reliability with mods is still to early to say.
Small turbos and heat issues will be a major problem.
Need to see V2 drag runs before I make a decision.
$50k out the door for a 3 series?

Ford 4x4, daily
just something to think about....

the new caddy will have closer to 600hp coming from the new blown 6.2 liter engine. with a pulley swap and a tune your looking at 600+ to the wheels, with a stick or auto option.

maybe the c63 in 08 then add the v in 09?
