C63 newbie question from longtime bmw owner
Hi all, sorry for posting perhaps an absurd question for many of you; I have owned bmw's for around a decade now. I currently own a 2002 Z3 and recently leased (2 yr lease) a 2006 M3 convertible. I leased the M3 since I wanted to buy the new M3 (on 2009). I rented recently a c230 and really liked it (of course with its limitations from performance that are obvious)
In any case I am not familiarized with mercedes. I like convertibles and I wanted to ask you guys if the c63 amg will come as a convertible or am I looking at the incorrect model. I was very impressed when I saw the pics of the c63 and made me rethink my M3 choices...I am not into blind allegiance to a brand. And I do not want a Porsche nor M5/M6 (wouldnt mind an M6 convertible though not willing to pay $115,000 for my next toy). Regardless I am digressing...I like the M3 but I have never been as impressed by a MB as by the new C63 amg...and after driving that c230 I can only imagine the capabilities.
Any feedback will be highly appreciated.

As far as I know the C63 will not come as a convertible. You might want to visit mbusa.com to see all the available models in the USA.
Please be aware, the C63 will not be as God-given piece of engineering as we'd like it to be. There are certain things on the C63 that will be superior to the M3, but on the other hand some of the features on the M3 are still unmatched.. yet. Some of the members here have read the review by Evo magazine and they have mentioned a few things that are still not so great compared to the Bimmer.
However, I have no doubt the C63 will be a fantastic car. So keep your eyes open, read a lot of reviews, but more importantly, do a test drive to help you make a decision. Good luck and welcome aboard.

Thank you for your response. I really dig convertibles only. I might stick with the M3 lease (convertible) and get me a C63...if I can get my hands on one... what are my chances of getting a 2008 without a deposit? It will not be out until May I was reading in this forum. Is this accurate? Anyhow thanks again mate

I see, I had wrong impression, because CLK fron looked as E. However I didn't get attention to first letter C of model name. Yes, you are right, CLK is just convertible version of C.

Thanks for all the input, actually today I went to the dealership...it is amazing how you can get better info here than from mercedes benz. They really do not know when the c63 will come out, they do not know horsepower of c63 amg I saw the 2007 clk 63 but I was not blown away with it (no quad exhaust to say one thing). On the other hand I really liked the new c class 2008 , those 320's were nice! but no amg's, and well the 600 CL,SL? not sure exactly...but OMG beautiful, regardless, they couldnt tell me if the 2008 clk would have quad exhaust etc.. if I wanted to pay the big bucks, though certainly 20,000+ more just to having the similar car convertible is a big chunk, specially considering the M3 vert will be like 10,000 dlls more than coupe (I am guessing based on past info). I may jump on the mercedes bandwagon and get the sedan c63 amg and eventually keep my M3/z3 for the vert experience. Tough one gentlemen.

Well, it is more confusing than that, because the CLS is based off the e-class chassis, so the lettering doesn't really have anything to do with it. MB design and marketing seems to have worked its magic though, most CLK drivers probably think their car is a coupe version of the E-class, especially drivers of the older model, as it does look like an e-class.

Yeah, the sales just "work" there, not necessarily an enthusiast. But in a few occasions clueless is not the case, they are just not allowed to give out any information prior to press release or formal statement from MB.
