SO.... they were getting 8s not pushing it... i guess, the car is capable of doing under 7:40 times and they proved it. Get over it! Its a technological achievement of Nissan hat off to them, I might even buy this car! Its great . Will I ever attempt going to the ring and run 7:38? I don't think so! Will I Enjoy SMARTEST AWD, TUNABILITY, and 3.5 to a 60 mph??? ABSOLUTELY!!! But I damn sure it will be my 2nd car tho!
And who said they weren't pushing it at 8? 8 minutes is screaming fast around that circuit. 500+ hp cars have difficulty going below 8 minutes. And sub 7:40 is on a different plain. Hence my doubts. I'm not here to question the stunning engineering at Nissan. If they ran a lighter modified version with track tires I'd believe a sub 7:40. And I do believe there's such a version. But at 3820lbs and 480 HP I have my doubts.

Agreed. If it does it does.
Distribution of power is almost as important as power itself. If you can't hook up the wheels it doesn't mean much (eg SL65)
BTW, I doubt the 7:45 stated as a time for the car I'm about to buy (CLK63 BS) because of the weight too. So it's not that I'm a Nissan basher. I'm just skeptical to accelerations and lap times that seem too good to be true.

. If you think they modified the car inorder to get the 7:40 then you should have doubts on every car that runs anything close to that. BTW lets not forget they held a pretty danm good lap time with the R34 before the 996 turbo beat that time. The GT-R is konwn for being a beast....maybe this is your first time hearing about the skyline, to me....it's nothing new. Nissan has stepped it up year by year.

Duuuuude. 8 minutes and 7:40 are in completely different leagues. This isn't a matter of a couple of seconds. But hey. Guess what??? I hope it actually did lap it in 7:38. Why? It'll force the other car companies to increase their performance.

E63 biturbo
If the CLK63 BS does a 7:45, then its highly possible that the C63 can do the same or better. It has similar power, is slightly lighter and the handling is supposed to be the best ever for MB.
BTW, just spoke to a german MKB tuner who was in town today and he said that they got 560 bhp and 670 Nm of torque with just headers and ECU alone. And most importantly the torque is flat from 2000rpm - 7000rpm! (yes, they increased the red line)
He also mentioned that the tuned E63 did a 330.1km/h at Nardo last week

This is turning out to be one tough decision to make

Wow, thats really impressive! I think the C63 is the top dog on the euro sport sedan side. Definitely a step up from the M3 and the RS4...especially if Mercedes introduced a dual clutch sequential tranny.
Not to put more wood on the fire, but with an exhaust and ECU the GT-R will be seeing astronomical hp numbers. I've seen the turbos and they aren't big at all...turbo swap would result in a bloody massacre on the streets.
...Also, years ago Carlos Ghosn promised that the performance of the GT-R will eclipse the 911 Turbo and will be offered at a base 911 price. I don't see why its so suprising that the R35 GT-R outlaps the 997TT on the Nurburgring, especially since thats what Skylines of the past were known for.
I think this car will be just as drivable, if not more, than a 911 or an M6. This car is home on the track and the streets, it was made to dominate from all angles.

what about all the nay says of the trany not been able to take all that?
might cause reliability issues as the 7 speed has had it issues

I've heard the tranny can't take more than 570tq. Then again, there are 2 members on these forums (I think) with supercharged SLK55's and they are putting out massive torque numbers and their 7 speeds are holding up.

Doubtful. The CLK63 Black has more power, more aggressive suspension and brakes, and better tires. It is made for the track. The C63 is great but lets not get carried away. It is Mercedes GT3.

GTR...not even a debate
GTR ran around "The Ring" 1 second faster than a Carrera GT. The car is, has been and will be a performance icon. A car that everyone else will aim for. The translated pricing so far points at $67,700 base....obviously optioned out it will be more expensive...but for the numbers it is putting out...WOW!! Oh yeah and the best part "TURBO"...means that the performance numbers...are just a baseline for something muchhhhhh moreeeee.

AWD accounts for a lot. The G35X has more weight and less power from the engine but was faster around a track than the standard G35.

I don't like the looks. I was hoping they'd stick to the more sleek shape of the R34 GT-R but this looks too much like one of those terrible G35s. I'm sure it'll run great though.
Someone on this board, I think it's Transferred, has a 500bhp R34 so I'd be interested to hear his take on the new model.
As for people saying it shouldn't be called a Nissan all I can say is that it wil be and for very good reason. An iconic car.

Agreed with the tuneability of the turbo though. That's why I'm on the list for next year's RS6.

So is this the beginning of a new era with Japanese vehicles? Much like 10+ years ago when they entered the luxury car market and forced the Germans to get more competitive. Are they about to do it in the performance car sector? And I'm not just syaing that because of the GTR. I say this because Lexus and Acura both have high powered models coming out too.

If this is going to be anything like the R34, then everyone should know that the HP/TQ number stated by Nissan are low. The R34 was stated at 270hp, but when dyno'd it would show closer to 320hp. I do realize that it was stated at 270 due to the "gentleman's" agreement in Japan, but still, Nissan may have been a bit conservative with their numbers here.
Secondly, as far as aftermarket goes, everything seems good to go, EXCEPT for turbo mods. Since the has a special manifold and placement, swaping it out for something larger/more powerful is going to be a problem.
