2 C63's "Spotted" in Houston

A budy of mine who is a car nut and is very familiar with the upcoming C63 said that he has seen TWO C63's driving around Houston. I told him that I didn't believe him but he said he was right behind each one of them (a black one and a silver one) and has no doubt they they were in fact the new body style and were clearly marked C63 on the decklid.

He did say that that they were both spotted (on different occassions) in the vicinity of one of the larger Mercedes dealerships in Houston and that he has seen several new releases in Houston well before their published release date (Said he saw an R8 two months ago).

I told him they might be test mules...

Most likely a 300 or 350 with sports package. They look almost identical from the front. Even if it did have the 6.3 AMG emblems, the owners could've easily purchased those off e-bay and put it on there.

The soonest the C63 will hit the U.S. market is February to April of 2008.

Exactly. If your buddy saw the quad pipes then more than likely it was the real deal.

Aren't there only 6 or 7 C63 built so far and all of them are still in the factory for test driving?

Damn, I saw what I thought was a silver C63 on Sat. Couldn't manuver around it to see the front, but it definetly had the 6.3 badge on the rear and quad exhaust. Guess I better keep my eyes peeled and camera with me.

There are quite a few in the states already for magazine testing, executive cars, training sessions etc. They started arriving at the ports about a 2-4 weeks ago.

They are just early/pre-production versions of the US spec cars.

These cars are well past warm weather testing as that took place last year in death valley.

I was referring to the C350 with the AMG Sports Package. I thought they had the same bumper, headlights, and fog lights as the C63. At least that was the case with the C230 Sport and the C32 AMG

I know the hood is definately different and that would be the hardest thing to mimmic, but as for the quad pipes and front bumper, it can be done very easily and very quickly.

I saw a mule...

about 90 days ago. I'm in Macon GA, just south of Atlanta. On my way home about midday, I saw two funny looking C class cars in the parking lot at Applebees. One was a pretty finely finished C 300 or something similar. Close to final production trim. The other was some kind of monster, with HUGE brakes, mismatched wheels, 4 BIG tailpipes, some beautiful seats in the front and some of that black disguise stuff on the nose. I turned around and hopped out. Both were full of test equipment. As I looked around, here came the guys out of the Applebees where they had stopped for lunch. I just waved at them and told them I was an MB geek ( I was in my 645). They apparently spoke some english, because when I whipped out my phone to grab a couple quick pictures, they all chimed in "no, no, no photographs please". I suppose I could have pressed the issue, but I didn't. When the mule cranked up to go, there was not doubt it was not 6 cyl car.
Oughtta be a fun piece, especailly after a few months and they get into the 50's, or less. Looking forward to it!

its not the case for the new c classes.
the front bumper is completely different from the c350 sport to the c63 amg.
so is the grille.

yes i know the w203 c class has an exact c32 amg kit on the c230/c350 sport models.

but it would be super hard to replicate a c63 front bumper, as noone has gotten theyre hands on one yet and there arent any replicas.

Nope C350AMG and C63 front bumpers are completely different, and C63 has quad tail pipes. Though I am in Canada if someone saw a quad pipe in Houston that is the deal.

If it had manufacturers plates then it was a mule. I've seen several mules here in vegas from time to time so it's believable to see preproduction cars a year in advance.

Back in mid 2000 when the C32 was just about to come out, my friend saw a C32 on the street. He followed it and when he stopped, my friend went up to him and asked him where he got the car. The car turned out to be a C320 made to look like the C32.

Officially, the C63 will not be availble for sale until 1st to 2nd Quarter of next year. So any C63 seen in the north america is at the Auto Show and Test Vehicles/mules.

its most likely real, Houston is usually one of the first cities (if not the first city) to get alot of the newer cars (its a huge car market). New model year cars come as early as early june.
