Why no talk of Audi S5 here?
#176
Can anyone say why Audi is going with a V6 TT on the B8 S4 when the new S5 has a V8?
I would think they would use the same engine. Would they move the 2009 S5to the same V6 TT?
The S4 and S5 are marketed to basically the same people.
What gives?

I find it odd that Audi would develope two different twin turbo v6's, the tt unit is a narrow angle v6, I still think the S4 will use the v8 from the S5, going to a v6 is a step back.

The V6 twin turbo is for real. But hey, wait for the RS5. It's going to be V8 TwinTurbo!

Audiworld are the only people I can find on the net claiming it will be a TT v6, all the other blog sites are quoting the Audiworld article, when a reputible European site like car, autocar, autoexpress, auto motor und sport or evo says it's going to be a v6 tt then I'll believe it. Right now it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to have a v8 S5 and a v6 S4, its a backwards step IMO

It could be an effort to make something comparable to the 335 (twin turbo, but not an M3) to market with something that is like the M3 (V8 power).

My guess is that they may be repositioning the lines against the 3 and C. The 2.0T, 3.2 and S4, putting the RS4 against the C63/M3. Maybe they'll be getting rid of the 3.2 A4 at some point and just having the 2.0T (which is suppose to get a power upgrade as well, same motor).

I've mostly ignored this thread until now.
The latest issue of Sport Auto is out, where they tested the S5.
Don't have all the details yet, but the laptime around the Nurburgring was 8:26 minutes.
I'll let you guys decide for yourself whether this is a good or bad time......![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
To give you perspective, here are other laptimes of note from previous Sport Auto Supertests around the Nurburgring (considered by most to be a very good indication of the OVERALL performance of a car). Remember that they have used the same pro driver for all of their Supertests, so the driver factor should not be much of an issue.
W202 C43 AMG: 8:51
B5 S4: 8:42
W203 C32 AMG: 8:37
E36 M3: 8:35
B6 S4 Avant: 8:29
E92 335i: 8:26
B5 RS4 Avant: 8:25
W203 C55 AMG: 8:22
E46 M3: 8:22
B7 RS4: 8:09 (on R-compound tires, which could shave 5-10 seconds off the time on a long track like this)
E92 M3: 8:05 (also on R-compound tires)
W204 C63 AMG: **coming in 2008**

I got a chance to test drive one last week.first off i have to say that the interior might be the nicest one for a 55k vehicle.i drive 90 miles round trip to work and i am thinking of getting one because it seems to be a great all around vehicle for me.i currently drive an 2003 clk500 with re-mapped ecu and air filters, and h&r springs, and its just enough power for me to have some fun and not get into too much trouble.but it really sucks getting stuck in half an inch of snow or trying to get up a hill with more than a 5% grade.for people that could only have one car in the garage to do everything, this might be the one.it has good off the line acceleration in many road conditions, great brakes, great steering response for a 3900lb coupe with a V8,enough room for 4 people, a great exhaust note, both from the rear and in the drivers seat and a 6 speed for spirited driving on the weekends on some back country roads when needed. the long wheel base with firm suspension also makes for a great touring ride on the highway with a really nice luxury feel.

I test drove the S5 and TT for an extended drive and I found the following
1) Yes the engine note is great, Typical V8 bass rich and sweet sounding
2) The Interior is nice but IMHO the NAV still is not neatly inserted into middle dash, not a big deal though
3) The car does lean in tight bends and feels heavy compared to TT
4) The back seats are very nice but not much leg room
5) I thought the TT seats were better
So I guess I found the S5 nice but not very exciting or very fun to drive IMHO

No longer car shopping...
The Audi S5 is a very nice $45K car. Unfortunately, it's priced @ $58K... No matter the looks, the performance isn't there for that price IMHO (of course). Wait a year and get a used one for the $45K figure...maybe?

Let's not forget that Audi released the S5 before the A5. The A5 will be priced in line with the A4 and should be a solid value. And for most drivers, the 3.2FSI engine will be plenty spunky.

Should cost $2-$3k less than the S5, maybe base at $47k-$48k or so and shouldn't have any GG tax.

Yeah, I know it's not as fast as the C63 but it does have several nice perks over it.
1.) Price (56k loaded)
2.) Interior (WAY nicer than the C63)
3.) Bang and Olufson Stereo (amazing sound according to reviews)
4.) Standard 19" Wheels
5.) Manual Transmission (automatic option coming shortly)
These are just the top 5 advantages I can think of the S5 has over the C63 and I'm sure I could come up with 5 which the C63 has OVER the S5. I'm just curious to know what everyone else thinks... I have setup a test drive tonight at an Audi dealer near me to see how this car behaves. I sat inside it a few days ago but that dealer would not let me take it out for a drive.
So far, it has been tested at 4.8sec 0-60 and 13.2sec in the quarter. Pretty much C55 numbers. Like I said before, it's no C63 in a straight line but there is so much more to consider and #1 for me is PRICE. 70k for a c-class is going to be tough to swallow.
Thoughts?
