I drove the C63 today.....

I got a call from one of the guys at the Merc store I do business with, telling me that they just got a demo C63 and that I needed to come in and drive it. So, off I went.

What a great little car! They have really done a nice job on exhaust notes with the 63 cars, especially this C, and the SL. The seats are excellent, and look to be the same spec as the CLK Black, and the steering wheel is perfect in alacantara with a flat bottom.

They have done a very nice job tidying up the handling. The chassis was taught, but not too stiffly sprung. Turn in was excellent, but not quite as crisp as the new M3 that I have driven. I can't wait to give this a few track laps. With all that torque, it should be quite entertaining with the ESP off.

I liked the way that the torque is put down, but I see areas where we will definitely be improving things.

Overall, I think that AMG have done a great job on this car and really put a nice package together. You guys that have them have made a great choice.

We are tuning the other 63 cars for ~35 extra hp, but I think there is more. My software guys are going to get some time with this demo, so we shall see. Aside from the extra hp/tq, I am going to dial in a broader torque band, as I think that will improve the driving experience.

Dino,
can your software guys also look at multiple downshifts by the trans, it only allows one downshift at a time in M mode and S mode multiple downshifts is slow

Which dealer had the C63? Schumacher didn't have one a couple weeks ago when I stopped by hoping to see one.

It is Schumacher - it came in last week. I drove it a couple of days ago and all I can say is WOW!!! I have a C32 and it felt like a sloppy **** driving it home after some time with the C63 :-) Some quick notes:

* The demo they have is black with tan interior. It's one of the test cars they had out here a few months ago. It does have the performance package.

* The handling and steering is night and day difference compared to my current C32

* Besides the engine growl the cabin is really quite. It feels a LOT more solid then the older gen Cs.

* Engine..........what can I say other then this thing is a beast.

* I'm not 100% sold on the nav. I'll have to spend some more time with it before I make a final judgment. Either way I still have it on my order.

You can't program that into a regular automatic trans.

Why can it be done on the 5 speed and not on the 7 speed? I had my SL55's tranny reprogramed by AMG (speedshift plus) and it's a h00t. In M1 (manual1) mode is does the 'regular' manual which allows multiple downshifts at once (as in Sport), in M2 it doesn't allow multiple downshifts at once, but is shifts like greased lightning and pretty rough.

@Speedshift plus: I tried multiple downhifts at once in M1 and M2 to see if speedshift plus allows for multiple downshifts at once with the 5 speed manual and as it turns out it doesn't.

Multiple downshifts apparently only are possible in Automatic (S or M) when the kick-down is used.

Would the ride be unconfterable for a daily driver with the PP? I need a comparison.... I just got out of a corvette and cant decided on the PP or not.

Schumacher c63

I just drove the same car at Schumacher's yesterday. Very nice car. A little to much side bolster in the seat for me but I'm a big guy. Plenty of room otherwise. 105mph on the 101fwy loop arrived very fast. Sales guy thought I got it up to 95, heh heh. The throttle blip on down shifts is great. He said the cars on it's third set of tires and it's got just over 3300 miles on the odo. Sounds like the journalists and media have been having fun with it too.

LOL! That poor car is getting thrashed!! I took my wife down for a test drive a week ago and it seemed like everyone was lining up for an amusement ride. One test drive would get done, another set of people would jump in.

On both drives our sales person got it sideways on Mayo (street - not the condiment) - pretty funny!

I thought I would have some convincing to do with my wife but she loved the car too. I do agree though - the seats are pretty tight and I am not all that big of a person..................

It's not bad at all - I thought my teeth would rattle given all the bad press there has been about the ride. Seemed fine for me and my wife didn't even notice that it was quit a bit firmer then our current C32. That should be the true test - LOL!

dang, i would not want to buy that car after hearing all this (3rd set of tires and 3300 miles). I am sure that people have pushed that car to the max or almost to the max.
