Help, what car should I buy? CLS55 or C63?

Okay so heres the deal, I have been working on getting a CLS55 for over 6 months now, but I am very specific as to what I want. IE I needed a black on black with the dark gloss wood and an 030 performance package for 60k and a warranty which had at least 6 months left on it. Needless to say I have not found what I was looking for but I have one friend in particular that keeps telling me I should get a C63 AMG. I have looked at the pictures and there are a few things about it I didnt like. Most importantly even though it is a newer car than the 06 cls it looks very cheap inside. The dash really bothers me, I have never seen it in person but in pictures it just seems ridiculously cheap and made of plastic while the CLS is wrapped around with gorgeous wood everywhere. My next problem would be the seats, the seats in the front look uncomfortable first of all and second of all from the back these "race-track" seats look ridiculous (in my mind). I have always admired Mercedes for their luxury and elegance and feel the CLS epitomizes this, my only problem is I hate how the CLS looks from the back whereas I love the exterior of the C63. I have 60,000 and I plan to buy this car in September, I am also willing to stretch all the way up to 70k if I really really love the car but would prefer to spend that 10k in rims, sound system, interior customization etc. Anyway please help me, my mind is going absolutely crazy and I do not know what car to get I am even considering getting something besides a mercedes if it looks good enough. I am upgrading from a 2002 SLK320 by the way so I am definitely ready to an AMG now. I want a fast, cool looking car that doesn't scream douchebag so the requirements are very hard to meet. Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

C63 AMG
Desi Style I think personally you are comparing Chalk and Cheese.

Yes they are both Mercedes and they are both AMG variants but IMO that’s where the similarities end.

The C63 is a 4 door 5 seater Sports Saloon and Mercedes very much make a point about the CLS being a 4 Door Coupe and hence it follows the Coupe ethos of only having 4 Seats.

I completely take on board your observations about the interior and I think sadly Mercedes have missed an opportunity with the interior for the C63.
Although the interiors are not as basic as some people have made out on various forums and in magazine articles.
Of course you have the option of the Carbon fibre and IMO the Stainless Steel is not that bad on a black interior. Its worth taking a good look at the interior in the flesh.

I think in terms of ride and performance the cars are very different indeed, the C63 was developed as a response to the ever lasting battle between Mercedes and BMW and mainly the M3 and of course more recently the RS4, hence the racing style front seats etc in the C63.

I think the C63 is pitched at the M3, RS4, with the E63 being pitched at the M5, whereas the CLS is in a niche of its own?

Depending on your build I don’t think you will find the seats in them uncomfortable? I am 5ft 11” and 14 stone fairly stocky in build and I think they are great especially when you start throwing the car around a bit.

Sorry as I guess this doesn’t help your decision process but I think you need to get down to a dealership and get test driving as they really are two different animals, with ANIMAL being the operative word hahaha.

Either way good luck!

ML63 AMG
CLS55 ! More prestigious too (if that mattered).

I would suggest you see the C63 in person, because while the interior is very 'un-Mercedes' like, it's not as bad as it looks on paper. Although I myself was quite disappointed too. I feel the C55 looked better.

ShanSL350 - The CLS55 would be compared to BMW's M6, among others.

You sound like a CLS driver. It's your money get what you want. Just because your friend might want a C63 doesn't mean it's the right car for you.

06 CLS55 w/ P030, 05 Jag S Type R, 05 TBird-68 Dodge Charger R/T-440 w/4speed I'm original owner
The cls55 with the 030 package is a notch or two above the rest. The alcantara steering wheel and the dynamic seats are a match made in heaven. It is race car driving right off the showroom floor. Add the rims, beefed up suspsension and brakes and the only equal are the 65s.

The C63 is a baby benz everywhere. The CLS55 best attribute is above 100, 120 and 150MPH and so on (186mph with the 030). Don't forget that airmatic ride.

Take each for a test drive and I doubt if you will ever get a full night of sleep again untill the 55 is in your garage.

Good Luck.

Off Topic here but how big are the brakes on the 030 models? 15.4 in?

Wow thanks for all the great responses! I am actually going to be traveling for the next 2 months and I leave next week so I have decided to pick up a CLS55 when I come back. I figure in two months once this summer rush is done an MB dealers have all these CLS55's sitting on their lot they may be more inclined to let them go for around 55k with medium miles! I prefer the outside look of the C63 but I really feel mercedes f***ed up the interior. So does anybody know where I can get a blackseries steering wheel off ebay? I really appreciate all the help guys I'll post some pics once I get the car. Also does anyone think its bad to pick up a car from Manheim? I have seen MB Financial list quite a few recently but all of them have had some body work. I am starting to think finding a clean car at manheim is impossible.
