It Finally Came But I Passed Due To The Seats

I ordered my C63 last October and it finally came in. I went and test drove it last night and I loved everything about it except for the seats. They are just to radical with the side and bottom bolsters. I am only 170 lbs and it just felt to confined. Not tight but just felt confined. Even with the bolsters all the way it out it was still to confining. I am currently driving a 2006 Vette and I love the seats in that. They are supportive but still very comfy. If you were buying this car for pure sport the seats would be fine but I just want a little more luxury. So the dealer pulls a 2006 SL55 out of the back with 23,000 miles for close to the same price as the new C63. I test drove the SL and man that is a sweet ride. Sporty but still very luxurious. Now I have to decide if I want to buy a used car. I have never bought a used car but for the deal on the SL55 I do not think I can pass on it.

I am the one that is spending $66,000 so it was my choice. The seats were not horrible but I just did not love them. When you test drive a new car you should have a big Sh?t *** smile on your face when you get out and I did not. I test drove the car for a good 20 minutes and than sat in it for another 20 as the salesman was going over all the features and the seats just were not great for me. Yes, I could live with them but you should love them when spending this much money. You might love them but I did not. Sure there are things with every car that people don't like but the seats are what your *** sits in so it is very important for me.

hey rjr,
did you have to give a deposit? did you get it back? here in australia, you would have to tear up 10% of purchase price to can a order like that.

I did put $1000 down last October. They will refund it in full. I am still thinking heavy on the used SL55 for the same price as the C63. They have a waiting list for the C63 so it will not be a problem for them to move it quickly.

I'm disappointed only because I was hoping to take a peek at your beast once you picked it up. But you're 100% right--you're dropping 70 large on that puppy, you better be real happy with it.

Things happen for a reason. Reason is, the SL55 AMG is an eye opener. I say go for it!

If you like a snug sport seat you will love it. It was just not for me.

A dealer in the UK would never let you take a Brand New car out for 20 minutes and drive it then turn around and say that you dont like the seats and then give you your deposit back????

Your USA dealers must be a hell of a lot more accomodating than ours.

So is the guy that buys the car now going to get a discount off the sticker price?

I wouldn't want a car with miles on it already?
Its bad enough when the workshop boys put the delivery miles on it.

RJR i agree 100% about loving the car fully when you buy
if it was off even a little, then you should pass

i would love to get the new SL, but i just cant
even if it was given to me for free....i still cant
i just wouldnt fit!

alltho i never drove the C63, i sat in it plenty of times and so far so good

i am however 6'6''......so if i pull the trigger and later get tired of it
im msure one of the forum members here will take the car off my hands for a good deal

RE: C63 vs SL55
Given that you are trading/selling a 2 seat car, I would go with the SL55, which was originally much more expensive. I'd hold them to the C63 price, and be sure it is a CPO and that you have lots of MB warranty included. The SL55 will be an awesome upgrade from a C6.

Good luck and post some pics when you decide.

The SL55 would be CPO and would still have a full 3 year and 75,000 miles left on it. When I stepped out of the SL55 and back into my C6 it was like night and day. Wow the SL is beautiful. I just have to get over buying a used car that is 3 years old and still paying in the mid-high 60 range. I know the SL was over $125,000 new so it is still a heck of a deal. I usually only keep cars for 2 to 3 years so I would not take a big hit on selling the SL55 because the big hit has already been taken. Lots to think about.

Why not pick up a 2009 C6 Z06? Same price as a C63. Its an entirely different beast.

I have had 3 Vetts over the last 6 years. All brand new and after a year or so they all squeak and rattle. One was a C5 coupe and the other 2 C6 Verts. Just tired of the squeaks and rattles. I have been in other Vetts and they also squeak and rattle. Just looking for a better build quality. Plus take your $65000 Vette to your local Chevy dealership for service and they treat you like *****. I have been to 4 local Chevy dealerships for service and they are all the same.

I feel your frustration. You are in a higher class of cars than me but none the less I wanted an AMG for power and was almost sold on a C55 but I was looking at high $30k's or low $40k's for a clean car and I just couldn't do it for used no matter the low mileage.

I haven't owned a used car in over a decade but the new body style of the C-class helped my decision a little more.

At least you get plenty of power and great looks either way. Good luck with it!

SL55 is a very nice car. BUT!!!!!! it's an old model..... I don't mind used car, but personally don't like driving an out of date old style model. If I were you, i would get the new SL550.

problem is that the 550 is again, well out of the price range. Though a sick car, that 550 motor is a lot of fun to drive, and the mpg is actually respectable.

Agghhh..... Oh well. I am used to my seats now and love them but they are not for everyone.

Have you considered an M5 or 550i with the sport seats? Absolutely the most comfortable and most adjustable seats I've ever sat in. Don't make a snap decision on the SL55. Although it is an amazing car, it's completely different from the C63. Were you after a German sports sedan? Check out the M5 and 550i... should be some killer deals out there. I almost picked up a CPO 2008 550i a few months ago. There are BMW program cars out there with very low miles (like 4000 miles) and have the CPO warranty. They are still new, and cheaper than a C63. Slower too, but still a great car.

How about the IS-F?

I have 32 inch waist and 42 inch chest and I agree the seats are tight for daily use. I would love them in my SLK, but not in my CLK where I often drive the car wearing a suit/tie and having to answer calls, etc. How hard is it to swap out the seats with those found in a C350 Sport? Is it just plug and play? If I ran a dealership, I would offer this up as a dealer option.
