I was told the same, & I PAID! the same, I wont be to happy to find out I could have saved a grand. This nex tax is new to me, maybe I should have done a little more homework on that topic. if it's true, then once again the dealers are scamming money out of their customers again. Do they not have any ethic's? Oh yeah, I forgot who I was talking about.
It's just awesome. Do your homework! I thought I had, you learn something everyday

"Green levy"? That sounds so much more elegant than "gas guzzler tax."
It makes we want to go to Victoria to take afternoon tea at the Empress.

Problem was I was expecting the Guzzler Tax but wasn't aware of the Green Levy. Guess I should pay attention to the news once and awhile LOL. Isn't that a little like double dipping.....Oh Yah, I forgot where we live....
These are the tables:
Gas Guzzler Tax
Highway Fuel Use Ratings
(Litres / 100 Km) Tax on New Passenger Vehicles (dollars)
Under 6.0 $0
6.0 to 7.9 $75
8.0 to 8.9 $75
9.0 to 9.4 $250
9.5 to 12.0 $1,200
12.1 to 15.0 $2,400
15.1 to 18.0 $4,400
over 18.0 $7,000
GREEN LEVY CHARGES
Fuel efficiency (L/100 km)
13.0 - 13.9 $1,000
14.0 - 14.9 $2,000
15.0 - 15.9 $3,000
16.0 or more $4,000
So a C63 is $1200 Guzzler and $1000 Green Levy for a $2200 hit

Correct me if im wrong
According to MB germeny(since there is no fuel consumption info in MB canada yet)
C63: city: 20.9L/100km
highway: 9.2L/100km
combined: 13.4L/100km
the fuel tax should be at 9.0 to 9.4 level for $250
green levy is correct at 13.0-13.9 for $1000

OK....
This is the latest; Transport Canada has yet to rate the either of the 2008 or 2009 C63's in its listing so its all guess work at this point. Anyone that has already paid the taxes stay tuned for the final results and you may be in for a rebate (Or not).
That said MB Germany does rate the C63 at 9.2Ltr/100Klm Highway and 13.4Ltr/100Klm combined.
Based on that our Green Levy should be $1000 and the Gas Tax at $250.
Time will tell. I am all over this one so stay tuned

C63///AMG, Can you please forward me your link to the quoted MB Germany fuel ratings that you found? I can't locate it and need it to push this further.
Thanks for your help and time

Thanks AMG///C63 for the link.
Here is the "Official" Transport Canada-MB Canada Consumption/Tax-Levy ratings (Attached pdf). I have highlighted the C63 and E63 for comparison. The E rates better according to Transport Canada and way off the ratings provided by MBDE shown here:
2009 AMG C63
Kraftstoffverbrauch innerorts (l/100 km) (20,9)
Kraftstoffverbrauch außerorts (l/100 km) (9,2)
Kraftstoffverbrauch kombiniert (l/100 km) (13,4)
2009 AMG E63
Kraftstoffverbrauch innerorts (l/100 km) (22,3)
Kraftstoffverbrauch außerorts (l/100 km) (9,8)
Kraftstoffverbrauch kombiniert (l/100 km) (14,3)
Based on the data from MBDE the Gas Guzzler tax should be $250 base on 9.2L/100km Hwy and the Green Levy should be $1000 based on 13.4L/100km Combined
Based on the data from MB Canada via Transport Canada the Gas Guzzler tax is $1200 based on 10.4L/100km Hwy and the Green Levy is $2000 based on 14.14L/100km Combined
Thats a $1950.00 difference
Something isn't right here.
I'm up for a fight>>> I have a call into MB Canada customer relations and my MP (Member of Parliament) to pursue.
I will keep you all informed of any progress (or not)
Wish me luck

I thought the percentage of octane made a difference, higher octane in Europe mean less consumption. Am I missing anything here?

back to the fuel consumption issue.
like the E63, in MB.CA it's 17.2 L/100 km highway and 10.8 L/100 km local.
comparing to MB.DE it's 22.3 L/100 km highway and 9.8 L/100 km local.
If some1 say it's because european octane different from North America, so makes the consumption difference. then howcome the MB.CA local consumption are less than MB.DE, and highway is more than MB.DE??? I think MB Canada did this in purpose, since the fuel tax is base on the highway’s rate, so they put a larger number in highway and combined. So the government gets more $$$$$$$$.
anyway, good luck on your fight, we all wish u can win.

Update:
If you compare the Transport Canada 2008 #'s on the E63 they match the 2009 C63 and the 2009 E63 has a much better rating then 2008. Looks like a bureaucrat mixed the data....
I’m on it. My MP is investigating

However, I think, they wont change the fuel consumption rate. They might just say something like: the fuel consumption is tested by Canadian spec vehicle and may be different from the Eurpean spec. OR something like MB ppl tested it whatever the test results are.....
Anyhow, we all hope u can change the history, that make them change the fuel consumption rate or match MB.DE, and then YOU ARE THE MAN!!!
(although i am the one who enlightened you, but U the ONE who changed the history tho, hehe)
once again, GOOD LUCK!
