Winter wheel sets

Just finished scouring the Tire Rack site, emailed my sales guy (who is checking) but nothing shows as available for 09 C63.

Anyone have good ideas here? Rough and tumble, good looks, more or less light weight, cheap price, non staggered.

TIA!

After searching everywhere I could for a nice winter set I have decided to use the OEM 18" 5 spoke for winter. I had a VERY hard time finding a decent wheel with the right offsets. I have purchased the 19" AMG 16 spoke (OEM European P30 wheel) for summer that will be mounted on delivery with P-Zeros. (19.35.235F / 19.30.265R). My dealer is doing an straight swap with the OEM P-Zero "Take-offs" for the new Pirelli Winter W240-Sottozero Series II (18.40.235 F&R)

This is not an inexpensive solution but what I think is a very viable and solid alternative. There are few things worse then seeing an AMG (or similar) performance car on the road in winter with cheap aftermarket wheels.

I am getting the Michelin Alpine. Is that a good winter tire for the C63?

Thank you,

George

Hey George. The Michelin PA2 is a great winter tire. I ran them on my C55 for the last 4 winters. You should be more than happy with them. Really quiet in all conditions and grip like there is no tomorrow. Just thought it was time to try something new. This new Sottozero Series II is purported to be a real piece of work.

Thanks Barry, I bought them today. I hope my car is here by the end of September.

be careful - the "what is best" argument on these tires is very specific to your particular needs. In Chicago, we get about 4-5 days of snow on the ground (the rest happen over night) and both are cleared very quickly. So I need a tire that works well in cold, may encouter some packes snow and ice - versus some of you who may drive in packed stuff all the time.

For the packed people - blizzaks are the ones. The Michelins seem to be the civilized city ones.

As for using stockers - I would be up for that but just don't want staggarred winter wheels - want to be able to roatate them as they'll be around longer.

Look at the Michelin X-Ice tires. They are stiff sidewall, almost all season but work like Blizzaks when you need them to.

I haven't been in the tire business for a few years now, but Nokian (European) was really becoming a player when I left 3 years ago, so look at their line up too.

Thanks for the tip. I've swapped cars like underwear for the past few years and in all cases bought new winter wheels - so I have some trial by fire experience too!

The wheel thing is starting to worry me though.

I started my search for a C63 Winter wheel solution last . After 9 months of going in circles with no one able to offer a viable solution without the use of sizable spacers I decided to use the OEM stock wheels for winter. I believe quit a few other C63 owners are going a similar route.

Good luck with your hunt

I think I may end up taking that drive to south bend myself. Sigh.
