poor car.....
Is there a list of spare parts we can remove and the weight saved, like spare tire = XXlbs, first aid kit =.Xlbs, etc...

Seems like a waste to me. He destroyed a beautiful car. If you've got the money I guess it's not a big deal.

Terrible, unless if this is a track dedicated car only.

There are just SOOOO many better, faster, cheaper ways to get a track car. I mean, if you were to strip down a minivan to the front seats only, it would handle better - doesn't mean it is the best track car.

+2, but don't forget he didn't even touch the dash, get rid of the A/C, etc, etc. Please oh please tell me that they did do this for the track, otherwise I fell soooooo sorry for that poor little M.Originally Posted by 1st amg

he could have done it a little more tastefully by covering up all of the unsightly wires and interior body paint. maybe with some lightweight carpeting or alcantara...

IMHO, unless this guy is a professional race car driver, and he drives for a living.....
....someone should smack some sense into him

if it truly is a track car, he's only 1/3 done. He needs to strip most of the dash, tranny tunnel and much much more. I agree, what a waste.

This is the most retarted **** I have ever seen. Why would you take a classy luxury car like that and strip it....It wasn't made for a track. If you want a track car thats light go out and buy a Z06. BMW and Benzes are made with exquisite details hence the hefty price you pay for em, not to be gutted out like a Civic or Integra!!!

Have you ever driven a car that lost 200 lbs?
Or do you troll the blvd looking for bimbos for the back of your 650?
If the guy wants to track and M3 yanking out all that bs and crap is a great idea.
Granted there are cheaper ways to make a race car but an E92 could be a fun car.
When you look at the car, it has everything you need and want in the front and nothing in the back where you dont need it. If you dont need the rear seats lose them.
All that can go back in if he wants to drive around with all his weight again.

I will be there Wednesday in stripped bmw.... but its an old 1992 bmw!
I did track events in a C32 so how can I make fun of him in a M3.
Not totally logical but at least someone is using the car for what it was designed to do.

As I said my friend, for a track car I can FULLY understand this move, but why stop with only the rear seat and carpetOriginally Posted by CynCarvin32

He is leaving ALOT of weight upfront, the worst place for it, aka A/C for starters. Does this mean that you gutted your C32 as well? One of the things I enjoy the most after a hard day of tracking, is the look on everyone's face as I hop back in my toy, windows up, A/C crankin, and tunes on knowing that my little street toy was competitive with their trailored toys. Oh well, maybe just me.
Anyway, have fun at WillowSprings my friend
I'm just jealous I can't be there as well.See yeah

No the C32 was full weight and that was a lot of mass. Kind of fun to totally humiliate guys in a stupid 4 door silver mercedes when they think they are fast and hard core 996TT drivers. Originally Posted by MRAMG1

Believe me I drive the bmw to and from the track with no ac and no heater and that gets old really quickly. Last time it was 112 degrees and I got home dripping in my own sweat. Gross I know. Back with the C32 it was AC cooling fans in the Recaro sport seat and everything. BMW sure is more fun at the track though. Last winter it was 9 degrees driving out the willow and that made my limbs go numb with no heater. I was happy to have my feet come back around 11am when it broke into the 20's lol.
You are correct that the weight came from the back which hurts the distribution a bit. No doubt about that.
He should just pull the door panels as well at this point and install manual windows too!

but if you read my post,
is said "unless he's tracking the car" this is disgusting
AND
if hes tracking it, get a vetter, or somethig better for the track
i totally get the point of removing weight
but i was talking about the asthetic apect of it

at least it wasn't a c63. interiors aren't even comparable. if it was a c63 id definitely say it was a waste. but it looks like he plans on doing lots of work to the car, turn it into a track beast. he said he got rid of like 300-400 lbs. But i definitely wouldn't be doin that.

Like someone mentioned before, if he just lines the back seat/trunk area with thin carpet to give it a finished appearance, then I don't think it's all that bad for the purpose he has in mind. I personally wouldn't gut it out like that as I'm not brave enough, but IF he is able to save 300-400 lbs then that is huge. You'll pretty much see performance increase all across the board; handling, braking, acceleration. The only thing I'd be worried about is upsetting the weight distribution.
FUGLY.... but he might be a hardcore racer
