Just drop them in and take her for a nice easy highway cruise. That way the air should dry any excess without sucking it in the motor. If you want to take it one step further, take them out of the box and let them sit in the sun for a few hours first.

Ohok sounds like a good idea lolz.
That wouldn't dry out the oil and stuff up the filter right??
Since its meant to work with that bit of oil on it.. lolz

Nope , just enough to remove the excess. As the previous poster stated, the big problem comes after the 1st cleaning when people have a tendency to "over-oil" or "marinate" the filters, drop them in and rev the $hiat out of the motor and draw the oil on to the MAF.

Here is my story. I've read in some other thread about charcoal delete and K&N drop in. Got very excited about this easy mod. Ordered K&N, installed it and in about 20 minutes of driving got CEL. Cleared CEL, installed just stock filter with NO CHARCOAL. Worked for a couple of days and then CEL again. Cleared, installed all back on. No CEL so far. In every CEL case it was running lean. So, I am not playing this game anymore. Not worth risking reliability of the whole engine.

I am not sure. I've had K&N filters on all my previous cars without any CEL. Jetta MK4 and Audi A3. And this guys tend to throw CEL very easily.

I don't feel very comfortable driving with engine running lean hoping that it will adopt to it magically.

I also don't feel any power increase, in fact i feel like loss of torque on low end.

hmm, that's interesting. did you touch the mass air filter sensor or anything like that? mine VRP airfilter has been in the car for over a year now and no CEL. did you order the correct K&N air filter (i.e., part number for the C63)?

I totally agree with you about not risking the engine but I don't think the ECU will never allow that to happen.

I'm a noob with working in the C63's engine bay. What exactly should be removed? Can someone post a DIY for us newbies?

Thanks in advance.

Do you know how many pulls were done before and after?

It's not uncommon to see a difference of 1% on back-to-back pulls with no changes.
