K&N Drop in Dyno

So - i had the question on how much hp / tq would a k&n drop in give - well here is some data - couldnt tell you if its accurate or not.

ac was on low the whole time and the pulls were done on a mustang dyno.

The numbers are a bit hard to read but...

stock
HP-383
TQ-380
K&N
HP-387
TQ-382

take it for what you will - and let me know if you have any questions.

sounds about right. a drop-in filter will only do so much. more than anything, you can probably hear the engine better and will have improved throttle response.

What if you add TWO more filters, would that double the HP?

However, I would like to see the dyno run removing the carbon filters also.

I think you can get these for less $ from James with
Automotive Connoisseur Group Inc of San Diego. I think he is a board sponsor.
I have a set on the way.

Looks like AMG tuned on the lean side. Hmm.

Well you know what they say....." If it ain't lean....it aint mean "

What fuel octane was in the tank ? 91 or 93 ?

PS: Less than 20% drivetrain loss for whp is awesome for the C63 !

Haha yes you are correct 45 each, add about 5 bucks for shipping, and the delivered price is $95 shipped.

Try BMC F1 filters. Harder to get and a bit more expensive, but I remember reading a report about them having better performance. The Mercedes DTM cars use them.

Puzzling thing is I put my totally stock C63 on that very same dyno and put down 403 whp. Not complaining, obviously, but just interesting to note, I guess.

Great numbers with the KN filters!!! Congrats...

403 on the same dyno?

Every car is different, you must factor: Weather conditions, Engine builder, Temps, break-in procedure...I have seen this on our dyno many times......

A safe statement to say: A car can vary 20WRHP a day.....

I bet your engine was cooler during the pull vs.....

I think if i do get an air filter, i'll get the K&N one since i can find it easier, and also cheaper lolz

What else does it actually do apart from filters the air better??
I'm assuming by that, it increases air flow, hence providing that extra power, and also improves response??

Or am i hoping too much from something so little lolz

Honestly, i tihnk an air filter replacement can only do so much....

I'm sure both brands will be similar, but I just know K&N better so will stick to that (unless other price is alot cheaper!!)

That was for the CLK DTM right? I had heard they switched to BMC for the C63 DTM and it's their OEM filter for their F1 and GT teams as well.
