Oil smell in Manual after break in? LSD with ESP

I hit a 1000 miles yesterday and have been driving around in Manual with ESP in sport.
When I got home I noticed a gear oil smell in the garage (Hot). Its like the LSD or the Tranny got gear oil for the first time.

Anyone else notice this smell?

After coming from Porsche and having one Rear Main Seal go in
the 996 GT3 and hearing lots about the 997 having RMS problems I
am a little bit nervous about oil.

The other day, after my long trip I noticed the same odd smell somewhere in the back/front wheel well. I'm thinking the brakes, reason being from what people are saying that the car seems faster as time goes on... I've noticed some times during a semi hard take off, it almost feels like the brakes were sticking just a bit. So it might just be a tight fit on the New PP brakes (just breaking in) there must be "a little" heat /friction going on all the time... (What I mean is when Not breaking) just during the initial break in period...and or just the "surface" of the New PP brake pads wearing...donno just a logical guess

No I am not 100% sure its gear oil but I am pretty sure its not regular oil.

dats wat I am thinking as well. and I've noticed that after long trip, there were lots of black or gray dust stuck onto the wheels (and the tar from road too, but shouldnt be dat large amount, right? ) and the smelling too. So I am thinking about if it's the initial break in period for the PP brake pad after a long drive to have a odd smell?

These PP break pads might have a special top coating maybe, causing it to burn off and leave an odor. I'd say it should go away after a couple of trips or 1K miles.

In regards to PaulGT3, I test drove a couple of C63's with and without PP. I was on them semi hard using the M mode up/down shifting high rev's, after getting out of the car I could smell stuff cooking. Engine felt /smelled like it was on fire but not in a bad way though... Do you see anything leaking? maybe oil droplets on the ground where you park? Anyway Good Luck!

I think you have nothing to worry about, I'm sure its just the New Engine/Drive train/ Break pad components heating up to normal operating temps (as you well know extremely hot on this car) for the first time... I have the same going on.

My car doesn't have the performance package, but I had a "something smells like it is burning" smell the first 6 hours I drove the car coming from somewhere in the front... It went away.

They should be running hot. I have owned one Porsche twin turbo 993
and this AMG is more brutal. I have driven the 996 TT and this AMG is more brutal and faster. I have driven the 997 Twin Turbo and this AMG is more brutal.
What a fun car to drive!!!

And also a very tight engine compartment, which doesn't help to dissipate the heat.

It's that new car smell on the outside!! I would say that it could be oils and anti corrosive protectants from the factory that is heated up and disapates.
