i am sure u ll look for a trucking company after u have done 1/3 of the trip... then u ll become so screwed for not knowing where to find it and then do another 300 miles just to look for the trucking company... and then your whole trip is ruined and your car filled with potatoe chips, cigarette ashes and butts and probably a half broken steering wheel when u lost temper and punch on it numerous times..
just truck it on day one... .quick and easy... u got lots of chances to drive it..

i would drive the car! great experience good way to break in the car and learn the car well, especially in those open areas in AZ. If you ship the car i suggest using Intercity lines, they are based out of boston, do a great job! White glove treatment.

Painters tape can be used to protect the paint so you can avoid the rock chips.
Part of me says just drive it out since the car will be worth 35k in likely 3 years so might as well get all the fun and time behind the wheel possible. I have let an SL55 stay perfect in the garage only to see it fall the price of a C350 in 4 years. So I have a clean valueless car that should have been driven more! The smiles per dollar lost was to low on that investment!

having driven from Boston to LA, it only seems like a good idea. I'd save the mileage and ship it. enjoy it in the mountains of California.

2002 S430 & 2009 SLK 55 AMG
I did Boston to SF via Chicago and Los Angeles in January once. Treacherous roads in snow/ice....rounded a curve in the PA hills to see a line of stopped traffic in all lanes of the interstate...pumped brakes to find road had iced solid as we were climbing from valleys to hills. We didn't hit anything (whew) and nothing hit us (double phew) but it was adrenaline city for some time. Road was eventually re-opened for long enough for us to get off and find an impromptu hotel at the next exit.
I guess I'm saying, don't expect a cross country drive in January to be fun fun fun.
If you do decide to do it - I hope you have good weather and nothing notable other than a growing fondness for your new car!

Depends on whether you want to enjoy a 3000 mile ride across country in a beautiful car,, It can get boring without a doubt being in a car for hours on end,, but if your driving a C63 I doubt you are going to become bored.. See if you can beat the coast to coast record...

I say yes. I did it in a less expensive but fairly new car. I don't recall alot of paint damage. I have good memories because I stopped in some unique national parks that look abandoned compared to CA. The people are friendlier, too. I fly from CA to Boston all the time. Pick your favorite reasons for doing it and decide.

I'm assuming the OP already moved since he stated that his move was in Jan 09.
But I wouldn't drive a nice car across country. The only thing being all the dead bugs that would be stuck on your hood, grill, bumper and radiator. I drove just 800 miles from New York to Chicago once and there was so much bug remains that I could not get all of them off (until I sold the car).

In all but very rare cases a car is for driving. Try and enjoy it and spend less time worrying about it.

I drove my E46 M3 from Seattle to Houston and had a blast. I love road trips though. All make good points about rock chips, etc. If you get clear bra those should be non-issue. You could also take southern route if winter weather is an issue. Nothing like good good tunes and fast driving across the good ole USA. I say go for it...
