I have the Pirelli 240 Sottozero series II at $244 each. GREAT tire. (Went Pirelli cause the PA3's were sold out at the time of purchase) Last years 240 sottozeros is at $199 just like the PA3
I really don't think you will find a quality 18" Snow at the price your looking at...

Thats a good price and do come recommended by Sr. Luke..I just heard that they were a little noisy. the PA3's and Sottozero's are dead quiet. I really think at this level its a pretty level playing field as far as quality and performance.

Thanks for the detailed responses. Well here is what I've got to choose from - if you could give me some more insight, I'd appreciate it:
All 235 - 40 - R18's ...
Bridgestone Blizzak LM-25 $198
Continental ContiWinterContact TS810 S $183
Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D $189
Michelin Pilot Alpin PA2 $210
Pirelli Winter 240 SnowSport $189
Pirelli Winter 240 Sottozero Serie II $244
So what is my best bet for performance / value ($210 - 244 is a bit more than I am looking to spend FYI...)
Also - WHAT IS THE "SERVICE DESCRIPTION "(Described by TireRack as the 2- or 3- digit load index followed by the Speed Rating Letter) ... Should I pay attention to this? If so my options are 91v, 95v or 95w between some of the tires above ...

I have the Michelin PA 3, 235/40-18 XL all around on 18" X 8" wheels. I am very happy with this combo. I would also recommend the Dunlops. I had them on my 335i and they performed quite well. Make sure you get the XL-extra load designated tires. Our cars are very heavy, and require the stronger tire.

Dunlops. Best all around performers. I am on my second set too because they always perform the best in tests they do at TireRack. They have very well documented stats.

I have the Pirelli 240 Snowsport for the C63, not sure yet how they perform as the car still hasnt been on the snow, my wifes car BMW 530i has the Dunlop SP Winter Sport, they are awesome as this is the second winter on them, very happy.

Hey - if you are basing that tire list only on size you are going to have a major wipe out. Our car needs the heavy duty load designation tires because of the torque it puts down. Buyer beware. When I bought mine, from TR, at their warehouse, in September no less - there were only about 3-4 tires that worked. BE CAREFUL!

I am a Dunlop guy myself. I have used them on my Benzes for two decades. Both summer and winter seem to go very well for MB's and the tread last very long.I have the winter sport for both vehicles.

Blizzak's here, they work great in Winnipeg.
Only problem I am having is really squeaky brakes, anyone else got this issue? Due to cold or due to metallic pads?
