I bought my C63 for 3 weeks and it is taken back to the Mercedes workshop. On the first day I took the car I asked the sales rep. that did it need run in for the first 1000 km and he said there's no need to. So I accelerated hard, used the manual mode and had fun with it. Until now (around 950 km) I heard that the engine was making some weird noise and it's like not lubricated well.

Guys is it serious? what are the worst things could be?

It sure sounds like you ignored the "Breaking In" instructions contained in the C63 Owner's Manual and summarized on the driver's side window "AMG" sticker.
If your engine problems are related to driver abuse (failing to follow proper "break in"), you might be on your own for the cost of repairs. Don't forget your car has a "black box" memory that can inform the dealer's technician of maximum engine speeds and road speeds attained by your car. This information could be used to deny warranty coverage for your engine.

Been driving my C63 for a week and have been keeping it under 90mph like the rep said BUT I have been making fast starts from lights, gunning it for a few seconds to go from 0-40 or 0 to 60...is that ok?? I don't want to hear tha "weird noise" in my engine too...

Don't worry about it. It will get fixed under warranty and you will be beck on the road before you know it.

Hand built engine.. they are meant to make noise for the first 1000 or so KMs.

I think the break in period is for the tranny only and not the powerplant.

Trade the puppy in you are done. Everything needs brake in even you bicycle. You would be so lucky if nothing happened, however if did your warranty maybe shot.

Well your sales rep was stupid to tell u that. Anytime you buy a car you should check the manual, skim through it a bit.

Don't worry its a Mercedes not a BMW, u'll be fine as soon as its checked out but I would suggest going easy for some time. Have fun up to 80MPH and then once you have abt 1,500 ot 2,000 miles on it, you can start giving it some of ur heavy foot lol.

this has been an ongoing debate for a while, just do a search. some say there is no "break in" needed, others claim break in should be for the first few k.

i redlined my car the first day i took delivery.

i did this to my previous G35 too, and i never had a single engine problem

the people i know baby their cars, their cars arent doing well...

so its very controversial, but i prefer to push my car to the limit once a while

Poster #10 is correct - the break-in period is for the transmission and rear-end, not the engine. The engine is run hard at the factory before being installed.

That doesn't mean transmissions are cheap, however. Change the fluids regularly (in both the trans and rear-end), and you will likely have nothing to worry about.

Maybe your engine is pinging - because you are not using right octane fuel perhaps, this is a common cause of pinging in engines, especially AMGs (if indeed that is the noise you are referring too).

Pinging has happened to my ML63 but can be caused by other things (however, the first question the techheads asked me was am i using the right octane fuel). I was using the right octane but when the the guys hooked car up to computer that saw that the ignition timing was not right for some unknown reason and they redid the software and drives like a dream. What noise is your car making? In my ML it sounded almost like a tin full stones was rattling round in the engine, especially in the 1-3k RPM range going up hills after the engine had warmed up.

I didn follow the break-in period instruction, I drove it like I steal it since the very first day. I even raced mine with my friend E55 the very first night on around 50 Miles on the clock. Hit the speed limiter couple of time, and it's still running until now...except I need to top of the oil every month

BUT, I do warm the engine every single drive, at least up to 100F , then I drove it out of my garage, and do less than 4k RPM until the engine temp stop blinking (around 177F if I am not wrong)

you should be fine, my first service I was worried the "black box" will tell the dealer how I drove, but my dealer didnt even bother to asked me anything about that

I dont think the German cars black boxes record driver history because of a philosophical difference. Even though we kinda look at Europe as socialistic, they do hold personal privacy pretty close.

Porsche has black boxes. It saves data anytime you go past the rev limiter and for how long. And I wouldn't believe any internet chat room advice on engine break in. Just follow the advice from the people, you know, who actually built your car.

Same thing happened to me, I never knew there was a break in so i drove it like i stoll it. I had floored it at least 20 times the first day that i got it to impress friends, then the next day i hit 150 mph on the highway. 600 miles later i decided to read the sticker on the top left corner of the windshield cause i really didnt have anything to do and it said to drive like a old lady for the first 1000 miles. Now the engine makes knocking noise and the transmission also makes clunking noise when shifting. So 8 months later i figure that i should trade this abused e63 in and hope the dealer wouldnt hear all the noise my engine and trany was making.

You should do what i did and trade that abused car in.

The break-in period is mainly for the gearbox and drive train. Even with some little break in mileage for the brakes too. I was told this be a MB Tech who works on AMG models.

Driving like a bat out of hell from 0 and then continuosly driving like you are on maximum attack level, is not necessarily a good idea if you plan on keeping you car for a long time.

First of all thank you all for the comments, yes it is definitely from the V8 engine and it sounds like some small stones went into the engine and made some rattling noise. but of coz it just sounds like it.
