C63 in the rain...comparisons...
My C63 with great tread left on my stock tires and only 2700 miles seems a little more squirelly in the rain than some of the other cars with which I have driven. Is this something you guys have noticed or have you had the opposite experience?

Is it just the pirellis that come on our cars? My SLK had conti sportcontact3s....I'm curious to see where this goes.

I was thinking the same exact thing myself...I started to hydroplane today at only 65-70 mph...it was friggin stupid. My SLK was more surefooted in the rain. Anyone else experience this. I'm pretty pissed...

I haven't driven a c63 in the rain, but I sure it is the tires. I have gone from Michelin Pilot Sports to Goodyear GS-D3 to PZeros on my C230K and the Pirelli's absolutely suck in the rain. The Goodyears are by far the best tires for rain -- sustained 90 MPH is easy in moderate rain. The Michelins were good, too. The Pirellis are scary at 50 in a good fog. (And I don't think they are very good dry, either).

I think it really depends on how much standing water is on the roadway. Of course, the Pirelli's that come on the car stock are better in dry weather, but should still provide decent wet weather traction.

I have been driving on summer only high performance tires for over a decade and these are the worst tires in the rain that I have ever used. I loved the Continental Contisport 2 tires on my last car. The Bridgestone RE50s on my wife's car are great.

To each his own but I think that giving up rain performance is NOT necessary if one wants outstanding dry performance as well.

I was just thinking this today. I always drive in ESP Sport and that becomes scary. ESP Off... well in the rain that is not a good idea at all.

I was driving through a puddle of water the other day where only the left side tires ran through the water. The entire car wanted to veer into the centre divider on that stretch of road. Mind you, I was going along at about 120 km/h (it was a freeway).
That's not something you'd expect when the car is normally rock steady in the dry. I am definitely going to a different tire once I get the chance.

Car Whore
then why the hell did you people buy a SPORTS car with SPORTS/SUMMER tires on it?
this isn't your pile of crap TRANS AM, its an over 500HP sports car that NEEDS traction, and unfortunately you can't have great dry weather traction and wet weather traction with the same pair of tires!

ALL high performance tires suck in the rain.
the tread design for SUMMER HIGH PERFORMANCE and WET PERFORMANCE is completely different.
You can't have both words all at once.
If you want "ALL SEASON" tires, then you should've bought a ****ing PRIUS or SUV.
Not a PERFORMANCE ORIENTED 500+HP race car.

Might I reccomend a new pair of tires for you boys? Try the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus. I have the regular Pilot Sport A/S on my Sl63, and they seem to do wonders for the rain, all the while having damn good handling and traction.

Lastly...as many of us have stated on here.....while high performance tires are geared towards dry performance...that doesn't mean you need to give up at least decent, wet weather stability.
