Sumitomo 275/35/18 Rear Tire Replacement

So after seeing several posts saying 275's should fit, I stepped out in faith and upgraded the 265's I bought to 275's.

The Sumitomo HR III XL's were $179.99 each and will be here on next Tuesday. I will update after they are installed.

If they don't fit, I will be pissed.

No worries, they will fit.

I hope they work out for you. I am interested to see how you find the mismatch set of of UHP tires run. I always felt that UHP and Snows were installed with the same premiss.. Mount in full sets of 4 for best performance

on a high performance car you should never run mismatched tires.
On a 62 Ford pickup not so bad. But an 09 AMG?

You should let the rears wear out, then repurchase the same rears. The OEM fronts will wear out with the 2nd set of rear OEMS then replace the whole set at once.

Very true, just on my c43 I spend around 600$-700$ for rear tires every summer.
You can afford a c63 but cant afford good tires???

believe me he can afford tires, that's why he is called OVERBUDGET , he just wants to see if these new tires will last longer and he just want wider tires.

Thanks MNL ICE. Would it be ideal to buy stock replacements to match the fronts? Sure. Could I afford it? Sure. Will I notice a difference with the mismatched tires if I am just daily driving and going hard in a straight line? I doubt it.

if I don't like how it handles, I'll just buy tires to make them all match up.

There is not that much size differance in the 265 to the 275. You will be fine. Now if you tried a 285 or 295 you would have some problems. When I replace my rears I will be putting 275's on as well. I have always gone up a size with all of my cars. Almost every guy on the Jeep SRT8 forum has gone up at least one size on the rears on the stock rim.

What about 275s on 19" wheels?

Should I expect any rubbing by going that route?

my wheel set up right now

front i have 245/40/18 conti contac 2
rear i have 265/40/18 michey toms

this is by far the best 1-2 punch ever.

no limp mode or anything. take off traction? no problem i floor the car in the street and it does not spin. i can even power brake to 2000RPM and it wont spin.

bottom line if you looking for a tire that can grip in street on stock rims mickey toms are what you need. if you looking to drif around turns forget about this what i wrote.

That has nothing to do with if you would have put on a 275 over a 265. You had some bad tires that were out of round. You could do the raked look with the 19's on the back. My C6 is like that. 19's on the back 18's on the front.

Will 265/35/18 rub with H&R springs installed? It's about one inch drop from stock.

Isn't 275 too wide for the stock rear rims?

Nope, they fit fine in the rear. I even loaded my car with tons of weight and drove from Portland to Scottsdale with no rub...

the only inconvenience of going with a 275/35/18 or 265/35/18 tire instead of a 255/35/18 is that the profile of the tire wall is noticeable higher - in other words the tire doesn't look as thin. However, what you lose in looks you gain in traction...

what you think are cars need more looks or more traction?

for me it's traction... and that's why I now have 275s in the back!
but for a lot of other folk here it seems that looks are more important - and that's ok! otherwise why go with heavier rims+tires, tinted windows, darken the chrome, etc, etc, etc.
