This baby is quick

Hi All,

Happy New Year to all!

A few days ago.....was on the daily commute to work when i heard then saw this Lambo Gallardo Cab (two years old judging by the plate) fly past me. Roads were damn slippery so thought best the traction control on and have some fun.... Just by chance when I caught up with him the lights turned red and we had these two babies side by side at the lights.

To my surprise I started to pull away (not going to mention any speeds here), but I was around a car length in-front then we had to slow down for another light. Again same thing I pulled away, we both acknowledged each others cars and parted.

I loved the sound of the Lambo, could not hear my car at all. Keep safe on these damn, cold and icy roads!

Nice. The early Gallardo's were REALLY slow, 2004 if I remember correctly. They were mid 12 second cars, which is right about where the C63 is.

If you read the story you would know this is an 06 car since that was the first year of the Spider, which i'm assuming the OP meant by cab. A Gallardo Spider is not slow, just as fast as an F430 Spider, the driver was probably shifting to early or just messing up. You beat the driver not the car.

Or maybe the Lambo driver wasn't really trying. I bet there must be tons of people posting on other boards about how they could keep up with (or even pull on) a C63, because more often than not when I come up alongside cars that want to race, I don't even bother trying and just let them go. Stoplight battles don't mean very much anyway.

hmmm, perhaps I did beat the driver and not the car. However he was trying, firstly could his gearchange quite high up the rev range, the speeds we reached, and thirdly the lovely blipping on the down change went from around 4th to 1st. He did mention that the C63 sounded great!!!

Still the Lambo is an amazing car and would have one if I could afford it anyday!

Great job on your run man, only you would know about the race since you were there. Since you beat the lambo have you ever thought about taking your c63 to the track, you might be able to put some nice times down in the 1/4 mile.

Trust me, I have some experience with the Gallardo. Especially since you said the roads were icy and the C63 doesn't grip anything like the Gallardo's awd.

Nice race though. I remember racing a Gallardo with my juiced up CLK. The sound of that high-reving V10 was music to my ears.

Kind of off topic here, and I know I've seen it discussed here before, but I can't seem to find the threads for this. What is the best launch technique for the C63?

I was at a red light the other day and someone (in I think a Volvo of some sort!) pulls up and starts reving. I forgot my wife had driven the car earlier so it was in 'C' mode with ESP ON. When the light changed I just floored it. Of course ESP kicked in and I just sat there for like 1 second. Finally took off and passed, but definitely unimpressive. At next light I switched to 'S' mode with ESP SPORT. I held brake and rpms to about 3000. Light turned, let go of brake, stomped gas, the wheels spun very briefly, then took off and passed almost instantly, but there was still that lag when the wheels spun where the guy was half a car length ahead. Really annoying!

Any suggestions?

I was actually so embarassed that I just kept flooring it through 100+
Left all traffic like 1/4 mile behind me
Then I went home and sulked

I progressively floor the car, lots of wheelspin otherwise!

Don't you want to be smooth with all throttle inputs? Notice how race car drivers never stomp on the gas pedal, they all progressively apply it for maximum acceleration.

For more info on driving faster whether from a stoplight or at the track, check out http://www.drivingfast.net/index.htm tons of info with many illustrations for understanding the concepts and physics on car control.
