Servicing at Dealer or Local Oil Change???

I asked this inside my Service A Completed thread, but people got off-topic and didn't answer directly.

Part of me feels like servicing at the dealer is the only way to go, but I am sure that they are charging way more than the local oil change place and all they do is tell you when the computer or manual says things are supposed to be done...

I should do a poll, but don't know how... Are you servicing only at your dealer, at somewhere else, or on your own?

I am only servicing my C63 at the dealership. I'm one of those that believes that with these types of cars, servicing at the dealership is the way to go. You are probably correct that they charge more and some local mercedes trained place can do the same but are you willing to take that chance.

if its just something as simple as an oil change, u can just have it done somewhere else.
just make sure u get an oem oil filter and the correct oil.

What I like!
I service at the dealer until the car is out of warranty. I like building that relationship and the paper trail in case anything goes wrong.

Fletcher Jones in Newport only charges $106 for an oil change.

Per tech bulletin, you need to replace filler plugs... The dealer will order parts before scheduled oil change, its included in the oil change.

BTW... my dealer also mails out discounts on repairs and service which came out to $125 at end, which I think is fair.

I have to bring my C63 in for Service A in about 60 days. Should I tell the dealer to order the filler plugs in preparation for my oil change or will they already know about it?

I would also consider that when a client does every service at a dealer and become a good customer even when the vehicle is out of warranty the service manager may be more willing to goodwill a repair. They all have an allotted amount of good will they are allowed to use for clients at MBUSA's cost. Also the fact that outside service stations might not use factory oem filters or the correct engine oil.

Now that I think about what I said, it was for the LSD oil replacement plugs... but ask anyway, have them look up the latest tech bulletins and question them about the oil plugs ...

if we ever have a customer at my dealer that needs repairs "just out of warranty" or many miles out of warranty the first thing the service manager looks at and mercedes looks at is if you did your services there.. one customer explained it to me the best one day in his 56 k
of driving his mint 04 e55 his tranny blew,he needed a tranny converter, and radiator from
metal in it he had a very good relationship with the dealer and did all his services at the dealer which i think he said was 2 A services and 2 B... a brake flush and coolant flush
which totaled around 2k he said. The repair for the tranny was close to 7k and the whole repair was covered because the service manager fought for it. The customer said it was the best 2k he every spent hahaha....... and the funny thing is the customer was so honest and told us he was beating the **** out of the car when it blew
