My dyno results have me happy but confused
Yesterday, a bunch of us went and put our cars on a Mustang 1100 Dyno. Of the three pulls done on my car, the highest reading was 403.5 hp (I'm not sure why the printout read 402). My car is still completely stock. A friend of ours (Jeffield, who is also on the forum) also dynoed his stock C63 immediately after I did mine, but the highest whp recorded on his car was something on the order of 385 or so.
We both had our cars in Dyno mode. The only difference we could think of was that he had put in 91 octane, and I had put in 94 (ok, he's better looking too).
Would that account for the difference (the fuel used)? Other C63s dynoed on that machine also showed around 385 to 390 whp. What gives?

David, congrats on the dyno numbers, that is impressive. The octane definitely play a big part to the difference reading, if you have a chance to fill up C16 and do a dyno again, you will be blown away of the outcome.

You're not going to get exact numbers from two different engines if that's what you're looking for From the factory, these engines can very anywhere from 5 to 15 hp. And yes, gas will make a difference. I'm not sure if it'll make 15 hp difference, but will definitely at least make 5 to 10 hp difference without a tune.
The really perplexing question then is if it's generally accepted that there is approximately 18% drivetrain loss, does this mean my crank horsepower number is somewhere approaching 492 hp??

The amount of miles on both cars can also play a role, as can motor to motor variables--even with today's tight tolerances and quality control some motors make more power than others.
Nice numbers.
Thanks

There's your answer (well the majority reason anyway). The stock ECU will allow for ~2-3 additional degrees of timing advance between 91-94.

So in other words, if Jeffield wasn't as good looking as he is, his car would have posted even lower numbers! Wow!
Oh, wait a sec, you mean the octane difference. Okay, so if he had put in 94 octane like I did, his numbers would have been closer if not identical to mine. But what would account for the fact that other stock C63s that have dynoed on that machine (at Miller Performance in Abbotsford, BC) also show numbers closer to Jeffield's rather than mine?
Jeffield's car is a few months older than mine, or perhaps I should say that he has more clicks on his odometer than I do on mine. I'm at about 7,200 kilometres right now.
Oh well, I'm not interested in having the most powerful C63 around. I just thought it would be good to get some insight from folks who are more experienced than I am about these things.

I m not as happy with my results
hehe the varibles of this was
My car was idle for more than 2-3 hours prior to the Dyno
i was running 91 octane ( Sebring lied and told me there was no Chevron around and had to get nasty Esso )
My car has performance package
Will the Gear Ratio get Affected and i have more power at a different gear different than David?
Here is my sheet

maybe its because your car isnt alabaster white like mine.
hence the numbers i was able to pull. :P
david, u should post your graph, maybe some of the experts here can help analyze it and give us more insight on how to read these things and also let u know how much they can improve it.

He lied to me we were running late and he told me there is no chevron ahead!
and told me there was an esso here and thats all
so i went to esso to put some gas and all they had was 91...
i put in 20 bucks
hoping i can find a chevron out in abbotsford
but i already had this crap gas in here
and also there was a Chevron ahead of the esso!
He lied to me
He knew it all along

Okay, don't get your panties all in a twist. I really didn't know there was a Chevron on Boundary Road. Besides, we both drove past the same Chevron station around the corner from where Miller Performance was. Furthermore, I didn't even know that Esso doesn't have anything higher than 91 octane.

I could be mistaken, but aren't Mustang dynos notorious for being "heartbreaker" dynos?
I think those are great numbers for a Mustang dyno.

I believe you're right. C16 is leaded. I would imagine it'd probably have some detrimental effects on the catalytic converters, and probably O2 sensors too. That's why we have to make sure Jeffield tries it first.
Let's just keep this between us, ok?

all the more reason to lose our cats! hehehe
we can try putting in some 100 octane race gas next time.
we can get some at mission. im not sure where else though and i dont know how much it will do unless we get tuned for it. worth a shot though!

Octane measurements vary by country. 95 in Saudi Arabia may be equivalent to 98 in Europe, depending on how the calculation is carried out.
In regards to adding higher octane gas, putting C16 or even 100 octane gas in a car that is tuned for 93 octane gas isn't going to do anything worth mentioning. As was mentioned earlier, C16 is leaded and you don't want to put that in your C63. You can buy 114 octane unleaded race gas at the drag strip if you feel like wasting money. Octane is in gas to resist detonation, so unless you are experiencing knock or have a way to advance timing, you aren't really going to get anything out of a higher octane fuel. Now granted, you may see some difference between 91 and 94, but I believe that most manufacturers that require premium gas set their US models up to run on 91. Thank you California.
