Kleemann or not to Kleemann

I am looking to upgrade the ECU and add headers etc. in order to gain more performance and threatening sound.
Kleemann seems to be the best deal as I have done searches and not seen anyone with a significant level of performance approaching their pricepoint.
Perhaps I am wrong here, feel free to correct me.
I would appreciate hearing from anyone with firsthand experience.
BTW I started a previous thread which was designed to obtain an answer to my query but unfortunately it devolved as posts strayed off topic.

Off topic as in Dyno results and same day track experiences involving a Kleemann K2 and an MKB C63 ??

I am going with Kleeman ECU tune. I have talked with one person who has done it and he dyno'd at 414 RWHP. My stock dyno was 366 RWHP. About a 50 HP improvement which gets it to what the other Merc 6.3 engines are getting. Check this post as well - https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...e-results.html

Granted, I have a W211 AMG, but I can tell you from experience that Kleemann makes nice products. You will definitely feel the difference!

I've always kept Kleeman in the running as well...especially from a hp/dollar stand point.

Other threads imply that some of these tunes are only beneficial at wide-open throttle. Would this mean that at half and three-quarter throttle sprints there's no difference from stock? Does anyone know how the Kleeman tune works with non-Wide Open Throttle operation?

Also, with Kleeman, can you go to one of their distributors in person and get the tune? I have a Kleeman distributor about an hour from me. I'd much rather run down on a Saturday and get a tune versus take out the ECU, ship it and be without my ride for a few days. Any ideas?

I agree with the posts...they make a quality product at a fair price. Also, the customer service from Brandon and Cory is exceptional.

ECU tunes are completely new to me (yes newbie lol)....does anyone have any good links to read up on the basics of this mod? and other performance mods in general? I found a bunch just by googling but figured you all would have some good references.

Thanks.

I have the Kleemann ecu upgrade. Big difference in power over stock. Better throttle response as well. It builds speed so quickly it is hard to find a place to use it on the street. I will be taking mine to a road course on Wednesday and will post some impresions.

I was excited for Kleeman, but now skeptical because theres a 25-30HP difference between MKB/MHP based on hhughes and DadsC63 cars and tunes. That's hugeee any way you look at it.

I wouldn't discount Kleemann just on those comparisons. The Kleemann ECU tune at $1500 is a great investment and accounts for most of the HP gain. The headers really drive the cost up for a relatively small performance gain but THE SOUND!!!!! The MKB headers are absolutely superior(compare visually) but cost a bundle. Although we can't be sure Keith and I believe the headers account for at least half of his extra 30HP.

Sounds good, Kleemann is still my top choice just based on price alone.

Do you know if Kleemann opens up the actual ECU box and mess with the hardware or is it just programming and plugged in?

I ask this because Boxk in the c-class forums got the MKB tune and the ECU had been opened (metal was tampered with), which would be clearly visible to the dealer and potentially bring up warranty issues. Does Keith's MKB ECU show the same tampering?

Hope bokx doesn't mind me using his ECU pic

But tune-for-tune (excluding hardware upgrades) aren't they all now very similar?

Would be nice to test the headers WITHOUT the tune and see ... I think some tuners might show a loss with the headers, if they're not flow-benched properly (you can't eyeball this stuff!).

As far as I know, everyone has to open the ECU. Someone mentioned to me that Andy does not, but I can't comment for sure. Anyone KNOW know?
