Seriously though, those of you who are on your second (or third) set of rear tires and chose to go with a wider tire on the stock wheels, did you notice if your tire wear was even worse?

My fiancee drives it half of the time, so I figure the tires will last a little longer :o When I hit that 1,000 mile mark, then i'll know how long the tires will last.

My oem rears lasted about 4,000 miles and were completely trashed. These Nexen N3000 are wider(275/35), grip better and have 3,500 Kleemann miles along with 7 or 8 passes at the strip with full burnout. They were $150 each installed including tax and they still look new!

Don't skimp on the tires--Your life and your loved ones lives depend upon it.

Keep in mind a tire that wears well will have a treadwear number starting at 400 and may go to 800. Most hi performance tires are in the 200's for the traction with softer rubber compounds for traction.

Also do not forgot, the hi speed tires do not come cheap. So if you have an 030 option, speed rated tires are 186 mph and no 030 are 155 MPH with the AMGs. It's not advisible to get tires from PEP Boys just to save money. You're loved ones do not want to be on cheap rubber just because you skimp on $$.

BTW---I have good experience with the Mich. Pilot Sports 2. They come in the XL rating which is required for 186 MPH. Kind of expensive at $450+ each. Makes you're foot a little bit liter.

Completely agree. I did a spirited run up Angeles Crest Highway today and both my pasanger and I were very glad and happy with my latest tire choice. I went with Yokohama Advan A048's and man did they stick. They were simply amazing. No slip and all grip. I would not have been able to make that run with a lesser tire.

These are Y rated tires for speeds of up to 186mph. Quality can be found at a lesser price if you look hard enough. The Pirellis disintegrated in about the same amount of time with much less abuse. This tire is absolutely superior to the prestige brand oems at half the price and twice the durability.

Looks like I'll be going with the Nexen thanks hhughes I wasn't exactly looking for a high performance tires, I wanted a balance between comfort, performance, wear and price. Sounds like the Nexen is a good tire.

I would not think the rear tire width is an issue but possibly the fronts might be???

I passed through a long list of competitors and my final were:
Falkon FK-452
Kumho SPT, XS
I would install latest from Nitto NT05 if they were available in Canada.
My final choice come to Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport, 275/35R18 (back only), which going to replace stock Pirelli after 8000 km.
I am doing daily driving and planning to go to a track on them.
Yokohama is not in my list, there are reviews that their robber is not good for rain.

Nitto NT05s are awesome on the C63. I installed a set about 2 weeks ago and am loving them. First track day with them is next Saturday! I went 245/35/18 front and 275/30/18 rear.

I'm hoping that by the time I go through my second rear set of Pzeros some of you guys can give some good info on real world duration. I'd love to get 8K out of a set of rear tires.

From an Aussie's point of view my rears lasted 8500k's (apparently longer than some in SA), and went with 265 Pirelle P-Zero's as a replacement (at over $600AUS per tire... damn) - but from just going from 255 to 265 already seem to have made a huge difference in grip? so hoping these might last longer....

7000KM and I am going on my 3rd set of Kuhmo SPT. A few circles here and there and getting the back end out on a few corners. I drive with ESP off always.

1,800 miles already and my tire still looks brand new. Of course I don't launch or do burnouts. Just spirited driving every now and then.

If you guys put 20mm spacers on the cars, does 295 fit on the rear? I am saving on my c63 now hope that i can get it at the end of summer. I am thinking about put spacers on and that can make the wheels out put a little and may be can fit wider tires.

hhughes: The nexen's look pretty good after 3500 miles! Are they quiet in normal highway driving? I have heard some brands are quite noisy at highway speed! Thanks in advance for your reply

No they do not rub. This is based on stock ride height. Even with aggressive handling or body roll they do not run. I run them on mine and have had no problems.
