Pirelli PZero vs. BFGoodrich g-Force KDW: Are they screwing me over?
I had recently bought a preowned 2008 C63 with 700 miles on it. The thread on the stock tires were completly gone. I had noticed this 2 days after I had purchased the car. What the previous owner did to the car in the first 700 miles, I can leave that for discussion in another thread.
My question is this:
I went to Mercedes and told them, "I have just purchased a basically brand new car, and the tires are in this condition? I want the tires replaced."
They happily did it.
When I got the car back, they had 4 BFGoodrick g-Force KDW on the car. They are all the same stock size: 235/40/18 in front and 255/35/18 in the rear.
How are these tires compared to the stock ones I was supposed to get? Are these tires worse than the stock ones? Did they do me a favor and get me better tires? If not, I would like to know so I can go back to them and find out why I didnt get the factory tires put on the car.

Some people have a problem with them, but, by far bar none the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 are the best tire I have ever owned. Any street tire that allows a 1.899 60 foot is a great tire imo

I am running Nexen N3000 275/35 which cost $150 a piece mounted, balanced including sales tax and I have a 1.861 60 on them. Nearly 4000 miles and minimal tread wear.

Whether they are good tires or cheap, I couldn’t help you there...
BUT, my dealer gave me crap when they saw my new tires, Yokohama's in the rear and the stock Pirelli’s up front. They said its bad to have different tires on the front and back, and that the only "APPROVED" tires for this car are the Pirelli's and Michelin's... Since your dealer gave you those, something sounds fishy...

hhughes, how do you like the Nexen N3000? I need to order some tires soon and these look great. Also, how well do the 275 fit on the rear?

Yokohama A048R - I put these on my stock 18 rims about a week ago and the grip is outstanding. I did go with 265 rear instead of 255 as they did not come in 255. They have a 80 tread wear rating so don't expect them to last all that long. I'll let you know how long mine last once I burn through them. I was able to get about 6k out of the stock Pzeros to give you an idea.
Toyo R888 - I have a set on order for my new 19 HRE rims. A buddy of mine just put them on his car a week ago and said best tire he has ever ran. Again tread rating of 80 so not long lasting.
Neither of these tires will last very long but again if you want soft and sticky these are the top two in my opinion.

Ugh P zeros? What kind the newer just p zero ones or rossos or what? the newer p zeros were eh. I had them on the 911 and were a downgrade from the kd's, and ps2's for that matter. I have no first hand knowledge about the kdw's but I'd say they're probably worse than the p zeros as they are a sacrificed wet type tire, no?
The best street tires I've run are as follows dunlop z stars, re11r's, kd's (old type). These are all super sticky and almost r compound tires. kd's are death in the wet. All aforementioned are so much better than anything mentioned. Ps2's are a waste of dough and are heavy. I like the z stars. Good bang for the buck. Get them to give you something else. I'd pick either z stars or re11r's if you can choose. If not and it's between zeros and kdw's, I'd get zeros, despite my affinity for the old kd's. The KD's however were a completely different tire. Kdw's are more for grandma I think. Go on tirerack and compare the tested specs numbers.

BF Goodrich G-Force are medium compound tires (and noisy ones) which I don't think is suited for the power on the C63. Yes they have less grip than the stock Pirelli P Zero's. Having said that, Michelin's Pilot Sport PS 2 are fantastic tires for the street. Do also have a look at Bridgestone's Potenza range.
