my parked C63 was hit
i go out of my way to park my car so there are no cars next to me or only a possibility of one car. how the heck am i also supposed to account for cars from a different row of the parking lot?
apparently the car was backing out of their space which was a row next to where i was parked. and they backed up way to much in their big @$$ ford excursion xlt and hit my rear bumper with their chrome bumper.
amazingly enough, she made the effort to find me and give me her information.
so now i'm waiting for a date to be set for her insurance to come look at my car. the bumper was pushed in, definite indent, with parts of the paint/bumper chipped off, and pushed up into my taillight enough to leave marks on the bumper although the lights look find. by the way, i didn't know it was white if the bumper gets chipped off. i've got a white line on my black bumper.
i also want to pursue diminished value (texas) and wanted to get some advice from people who have done this and what company they used.
some sites charge close to $400 and this site offers a free one (or $99.95). not sure where to go.

To be honest, if it's only the bumper and tailight, be grateful. I know it's frustrating, but dimished value over a bumper? What could you expect to get, $500?

new bumper and cf lip should fix the whole ordeal. :o I don't think you should pursue diminished value because I dont' think a little bumper mishap will diminish the value. Just ask her to pay straight up for the damage plus a new lip :o so her insurance won't go up. She's a good person for giving you her information.

idk how much diminished value there might be. which is why i'm asking. but you made a good point. i figured an accident on the record of the car will diminish it's value no matter what.

are you saying it's bs if she pays for it out of her own pocket? or bs to have her insurance pay for it?

It's fine whether she ways out of pocket or through insurance but if it's the former I'd be tempted to split it or at least pay a portion given that she was a good samaritan in this. You'd be paying full whack if she'd just left...

well, its okay accidents happen, Also a new bumper is around 3k including labour and paint job
Also, you are lucky because if she argues she can get away by paying 50 / 50 because its in a parking lot

Your issue really sucks ///
I (for one) know that I would never look at my car the same again if ANY damage were ever done....
I'm just really picky....

'08 C63 AMG (turned in for lease)
Ugh same thing happened to me. Went out to Chicago to visit a buddy and parked my car on the street outside of his house that's just outside of downtown. Had a great night, woke up in the morning and there's a scratch thats about 4 inches long and 2 an inch thick on my rear bumper... the worst thing is that i just had the bumper repainted like a month before for a similar thing.....

Sorry to hear about your car, that really sucks! It is amazing that she left her info though. Most people would run as fast as they could after damaging an MB since they know how expensive MB's are.

Same thing happened to me. I live in a no fault state. My insurance(Chubb) paid for everything including rental car. The only thing that was not covered was the deductable. Chubb, on my behalf, pursued the insurance company of the guy that hit me for the deductable amount.
Since it was not my fault, my premiums did not go up.

IMHO, diminished value might apply if you had bent sheet metal, etc. But "bumpers" are there to deflect such dings as you received. Check with any high-end import dealer. You'll find that used car bumper covers are often repainted to fix minor road rash and dings, etc.
When I consigned a Porsche for sale, the dealer said he'd have to paint the bumper and hood to fix minimal road rash. I argued that the repaint might diminish the car's value.. they said the rash would be a turn-off to buyers. They proved me wrong.
My advice:
1. Take photos of all the damaged areas now. They will be useful when you sell the car. If anyone questions the repair, you can prove it was not a major hit.
2. Take the high road, choose a good body shop to fix your car and let them pay for it.
