I know it says "all 2010" models, but you would think they would say it is a "model highlight" in the 2010 order guide that Sheep sent out to people who asked.

I am going to keep my 2010 order. There will always be something new.

If you guys want to wait for MY2011 for DI and MCT then by all means go for it. However, for my case I don't even have a car right now so I have to get a 2010 "something" no matter what. Buying cars is like buying computers, as the one a year later will always be better than the one from a year before, so it really boils down to whether you need it now or not.

Yeah, I wouldn't expect the MCT in the C class before it propagates through all the higher end models. Probably not before 11 or 12.

But I've occasionally been wrong before...

MCT would be fantastic but I am pretty impressed with the current tranny and it puts the power down fast.DI for me is important, a good power bump in hp and tourqe and better gas mileage with it. I am pretty sure that with DI the C63 should be around 470 hp.

Someone just told me that the MCT is the same transmission. The difference being the converter or the wet clutch pack. I thought it was a whole new transmission.

I think we can agree on that there is an on going debate as of what qualify as an automatic vs a manual. However, one of the more accepted definition of an automatic is the existence of a torque converter within the transmission. Then based on this definition, the current MY2009 C63 (or even for MY2010) is an automatic. However, once the C63 uses a Multi-Clutch Transmission, WITH OUT THE USE OF A TORQUE CONVERTER, it will be a manual.

But again if you think about it the entire argument of MCT being a automatic is just silly, as it is like saying those F-1's are automatic, hence inferior to "true manual" transmission, even you only need to push a button to shift in F-1.

2010 C63
Sorry if I missed it, but other than "autobloggreen" (a contradition in terms) and the "autoblog" post - both of which appear to be based on the same source- where is it said that MB will have DI for 2010?

It is widely reported that the 2010 E63 uses the same engine as the '09 version -- MCT is the big drivetrain change.

I would imagine that a DI version of the M156 would have a new designation - i.e., be a new engine. You can't just slap DI on the existing engine. It requires higher compression to get the most benefit, and that would require new engine internals, correct? The next evolution of the M156 engine is the M159 for the SLS. I haven't seen anyone say that the M159 will have DI - maybe it does, but if it did, I am sure that AMG would be trumpeting it.

Just want to know if someone has anything definative on DI for 2010 (there is nothing on the M-B website about the E63 being DI). Thanks.

I would classify a tranny as "Manual" when there is an electronic clutch, this can be done with or without a torque converter I believe, but I’m not positive... As long as the MCT has a multi-clutch, then it will be a true manual, which is actually BETTER than a stick shift and almost NO ONE could drive the same car as fast with a stick... For example an M3 with SMG and one with a stick were racing, 9 out of 10 times the SMG will win (Most likely 10 out of 10 times in reality tho)

I never understood why many people hate on these transmissions, and always make ridiculous comments... There is obviously a reason why Ferrari and Lambo's use them...

True, and I do think the whole "torque converter waste power for shifting and add weight, hence inferior to manual" argument is really outdated. As long as I can get from point A to point B faster than you are, then who cares what trans is on my car.

You have obviously never driven a car with one of those transmissions. The new Double clutch transmissions are way better in terms of smoothness. Automated manuals tend to be jerky and sometimes unpredictable (when driving in the city). On the track, they are phenomenal.

Up until last week, I had a M3 with SMG. My wife hated the automatic mode. haha. I don't know if SMG III is better in the M5 and M6, but SMG II in the M3 took a while to get used to.
