Does the C63 have a coating on the windshield?

I've went through a few laser traps and my detector (escort 8500 with ZR3 Shifter) hasn't gone off. I've been reading through the manual, it said some models of cars have a coating on the windshield. Although I do get a few false laser alarms every now and then.

Does anyone know if our cars have a IR coating or anything similar?

I was wondering the same thing, possibly the rear windshield has this coating, anti reflective or something, but not sure about the front, I know there are some members who are using detectors but I think they are hard wired in their front grills, if anyone knows about this, its an excellent question.

CL's and some S Class models have a metalic in the windshield lamanate that will block transponder signals and some radar receivers. The C class doesn't.

I do not have the expensive one like some of you do, I just have a Cobra one and it does detect the radar no problem, Saved me a few times. So at least in the 08 US Models there is no problem with the windsheild blocking the radar.

My laser jammer is mounted in the front grill.

Now that I have been reading more. I think my detector isn't picking up the laser beam as its too small at anything under 500ft (only 18inches in diameter).

My valentine is fine....the laser for me is usually when the fog lights go on due to the car making a turn that's all.

Those things never work, some guy on this forum did a test on a track with real cops... and they got him on the radar everytime. (He had an expensive one also!)

Such a waste of money....

I don't use a radar/laser detector, but the way I understand it, the utility in the real world comes from detecting radar/laser use on other vehicles ahead of you. So on a closed circuit where the laser/radar operator only has one car to target, of course it will get a speed reading way before the driver can detect and adjust speed.

Like I said, I don't own one so I could be wrong (it's happened once or twice where I've been wrong - a long, long time ago of course)

I used to own a V1 and gave it up because I just didn't find it all that helpful. The number of false positives (or maybe the cops were just REALLY well hidden) made driving somewhat less fun so I just stopped using radar detectors all together.

It's been 6 years since that time and still no tickets on my E46, E92, or C63. Knock on wood this trend will continue just by being a vigilant driver.

Of course, I don't drive nearly as aggressively as some people on this forum so for those who are always pushing their cars it might be worth it.

I have 09 C63 and 8500 and no issues picking up radar. Still saves me frequently...

Laser is not detectable unless it is aimed at you, by then it is too late. On the other hand radar is easily picked up before you hit the trap.

It is a polarized and laminated windshield, as far as a IR coating I'm not quite sure, but I can find out for sure.

Found out why my laser jammer isnt working. Because the retard who installed it, installed it behind the grill, the sensors need to be mounted at the very front no obstructed by anything and have a clear view of the road ahead.

A Radar detector will work well for radar but dont do jack **** for laser. You need a laser jammer (shifter) for that. With a stand alone radar detector, by the time you detect it the cop already has your speed. The jammer works by seeing the incoming laser and sending out its own laser to jam the gun and give the operator a false reading. But 90% of installers install these systems wrong, the dioedes at the front and the rear of the car have to be completely level and not obstructed by anything at all.

I've done a lot of research on this topic, there is a good forum dedicated to it, http://www.radardetector.net

Thats why a lot of guys detectos aren't working is an improper install. The beam of the laser at 500ft is only 18inchs in diameter so most of the time it doesn't even hit the radar detector mounted in the windsheild as they aim at your front license plate for optimale reflectiveness.

the cl, s, some gl's and some R's have metalic coated glass. Each car has two areas in the windshield that are not coated and free from interference. You can find them in the manual and wis actually has a template you cant put on the window to find them. You can see the spaces with the naked eye though.

C-class cars dont have the 2k front windshield option. Be happy about that as hitting rocks gets quite expensive!
