I Know it has The AMG seating package anything i should Know about this beast before i let her loose i hear about the break in and mix reviews what is the proper way to break this impressive machine in beat it or take it easy?

Honest answer.... Beat the **** out of it as soon as you get out of the dealer. This car was made to be driven hard even tho some will tell you to do all that break in bull****...

How many miles are you getting to a set of rears?

I managed to go 10,500 kilometres with my first set of P Zero rears before replacement.

Mind telling me what exactly you read to make you think this way? I've been dying to break in my car and this has been the longest 1000 miles in my life (I'm at 300). I know the break in period at 1000 miles is overkill but what is a good amount to break in then? Is it really from the start?

Wow. 10,500 is awesome. I got 6500 kms on my first set and will get about that on the present ones that are now down to the wear bars. I do drive almost exclusively on city roads. So there are a ton of stops and starts on those tires. If I was laying on the highway miles I'd probably be closer to 10,500.

Congratz to the OP, I picked mine up about a week ago and there is no regrets even though I have more debt now. This car is worth the money and this is the first car that I've owned that makes me so happy to drive the car even to the sandwich shop.

I would recommend sticking to the 1,000 mile break-in period. You don't have to go WOT every time you move off from a red light, but steady, progressive throttle inputs taking the engine through a broad spectrum of its rev range is probably the best thing to do.

That's my two cents.

I do mostly city driving as well (hence the shocking fuel consumption), but I did do one fairly longish road trip (500 km either way) which added to the longevity of the tire life.

Maybe you could try going to a different tire with a slightly higher treadwear rating? I'm using Hankook Ventus S1s right now which have a 280 treadwear rating (compared to the 220 for the P Zeros). The tires are pretty impressive given the low price Tire Rack charges for them. Oh, and I went to a 265 width as well, which has markedly enhanced the car's high speed behaviour in corners and during lane changes.

Congrats on the car! I mean, all engines are engine-dyno'd before realeased... (aka broken in)....

There are other things to factor during the "break in" period but I say put the pedal to the metal...

What's the term, RTFM? Also MB deemed the proper break in procedure so important that they put a sticker on the windshield in front of the drivers line of sight! Break it in like you bought a precision instrument.

Not all 63 engines are "Hot ran" By this I mean not all engines are actually firing on combustion cycles. Some / most are "Cold Ran" which means that an electic motor turns the engine and they monitor to make sure there is proper compression, oil pressure and other engine vitals.

One thing to note is that when the engines are filled with oil, they are not just filling the pan they also supply oil pressure to fill all the oil passages so that the engine is never turned on a dry bearing.

congrats John...ive had mine for just under 3 weeks and every time i get out i have smile on my face...im juss at about 1000 miles so im starting to punch it more and more, which in turn is leading to more smiles



i have a question about this....multiple ppl have stated that they "feel" like the car/engine gets stronger w/ mileage...if that is true, wouldnt it make sense to wait for a few thousand miles (or longer) and then do ECU?

Congrats on the new ride. New tires will not be far behind...lol. The Pirelli's suck and the car is clearly under-tired as well. 265's or 275's on the rears will hopefully help with tire life. I have almost 14k on mine and buying my second set of new rears this week (my 3rd set if you count the originals). Going with 265 on rear and 245 on front and going with GY Eagle F1 A/S, which are much better than the Pirelli's.

Why 245 on the fronts? I was thinking of staying with the 235s?
