Same engine and 67 less HP how?

How does the C class have the exact same engine as an E and S class AMG, yet have almost 70 less HP?

I mean I know MB cant have a 56k car which has the same HP as a 130k car, but they should put in a better engine in those cars rather than cripple the engine on the C class.

They cant be just detuning the engine though, unless third party tuners are not as good as AMG tuners and get that extra 67 HP out. Do the E and S classes have better headers? A better tune and better headers is the only way I can think of the higher end models getting 518 HP out of the same engine.

I believe it has something to do with resonators and exhaust so your are the right path with the headers. I'm pretty sure of this cause the c63 is almost a straight back

Our ECU chips have been proven to get more gain than the AMGs.

well they are putting the 500 hp motor in cars that wieght 750-1000lb more so its reasonable.. knowing how brutal the c63 is from the factory with 451hp and what some people are paying for insurance on them... imagine if they came with 500 or 510...
With how little they weight and the power they have now at my dealer i think we have had about 10-15 c63 come in smashed up from someone who couldnt handle the 451 hp and how tail happy they are. lets leave the more hp to the people who can hopefully keep it under control haha who are the people whom look to tune there cars

Very true, most people can't handle the "crippled" power of the C63. I've fixed two smashed C63's so far at my shop and I'm sure many more will come in as well. There's no shortage of people that can buy powerful cars..........but there is a shortage of people who can REALLY put that power to good/safe use. Almost all of the AMG cars I fix are smashed in the front, I wonder why that is.

Does the traction control help the fish tail I'm a little scared now. I owned a e46 m3 that wasn't too bad with tail happiness. I really don't want mine to end as scrap.

All you have to be is smart. Get to know the car and you'll be fine. Some people just gun it around corners and don't know what to expect.

You have to KNOW you car and your skill level and dont be scared to take it to a lot and practice abit. Maybe even driving events, there are so many tracks that offer day classes or weekend schools on driving that are so usefull!!!

Yeah, definitely do some DEs at the track. That'll bring up your confidence level. Learn and practice. Then repeat. And again.

^^ I'm interested too. I came from an Evo and that car handled like it was on rails. There was no way I can go "dorifto" with that car. That being said the C63 will certainly go sideways every chance it has. I need to find its limits in a safe environment so that I know when it breaks off sideways. I'm at Irvine btw.

Don't know about you, but I "dorifto'd" my Evo before :o

Before you do any major performance upgrades on a C63, the first order of business is to put some decent tires on it. Stock C63's come MASSIVELY undertired for their power level, which is why you see so many plowing into inanimate objects.

I've done events thru the PCA (Porsche Club of America) and the MBCA does organize DEs but only very rarely in SoCal (they need to get their act together, imho) PCA is way more active than the MBCA, unfortunately. But it's still worth being a MBCA member.

I've also done McKeever's classes. It's the best bet in SoCal, imho.

Going back to OP, I heard from a local ecu tuner that the throttle bodies in the C63 are not tuned for 100% activation. The people in AMG rather de-tune the ecu so that it does not give the power it is supposed to give for this specific car. That is supposed to be "THE" reason why the W204 C63 gives this amount of bhp when you tune the factory ECU.

P.S: Nothing mentioned above is perfectly true. This an explanation I've got from from a person who worked on AMG cars. It seems reasonable IMO.

If your car looks like this, you might as well buy the headers because they have to remove the engine on some of those front repairs and this way you will save some money on installation.

How is it going Mopar? Smack Dougie in the back when he is working on the Lambo and tell him I said, "hi."

The reason for that is its de-tuned. for various reasons. One why pay 90+ for 500+ hp when you can get it for 60+. The car is light as it is and it goes like snot, imagine the uncorked version. A simple fiddling with the ecu and their you have it. No need to mess with the exhaust. Won't do much unless you do long tube headers and delete the secondary cats and get an x-pipe. Then your results will be dollar.

When the C63 was created, it was faster than it's older brother AMG's.

MB could not allow the "cheapest" of the bunch to be the "fastest" of the bunch...Power/weight ratio...

That's why it is de-tuned...

Let me know if I can help with the ECU upgrade!
