Picking her up this week... break in ?
Today i decided on a Black/black C63 with all the goodies: Performace pkg, Multimedia, upgraded leather, cf interior trim, and everything else that was an option except the ipod wire. Sadly i have to trade my e46 m3 competiton pkg, its having the exhaust removed as we speak.
Anyways my question is what is the break in period for this beast?

And since I'm feelling polite today, I'll phrase it this way: please be so kind as to do a search on the break in period.
Congrats on the ride.

Break in period is 1000 miles for this car. There will be a sticker in your windshield (drivers side) to remind you every time you drive. It says to keep under 4500 rpm and 85 mph until 1000 miles and gradually increase load after that. Some people go all out after 1k miles but I am planning to gradually increase load until 2500 miles.

Just remember to also keep your rpm moving...don't stay at a consistent rpm.

BTW off topic, but does anyone know if exotics like Lambos, Ferraris, etc need break in? I'm asking because it seems so many exotics are for sale used with less than 1k miles. I'm wondering if people are getting rid of them before breaking them in, or if they can be driven hard from the get go.

These motors are all pretty much broken in from the factory. The break in procedure sticker is mostly for the drivetrain and rear end. Go for a late night drive for a few hundred miles keeping the rpm's at varying yet consistent revs. For instance....drive 10 minutes at 3000 rpms, then 10 mins at 2000 rpms, then 10 mins at 4000 rpms, then same for 4500 rpms, then back down to 2000 again....just don't sit on the freeway and cruise at 2000rpms for 100 miles. Once you have done that for an hour or so, then hammer it through the gears and start raising the rpms. After a couple hours of doing that, all the seals will have gone through enough heat cycles and the motor will be as broken in as it's going to get.

I took my time and followed the official factory procedure outlined in the official manual that came officially with my car. I'm at 4500 miles now and it is a rocket. Hasn't used a drop of oil and it is incredibly powerful. You get more HP if you follow the official factory procedure. I actually drove my car out of the dealer, not like I stole it, but like I paid $60K+ for it.

My opinion, do what the factory tells you by the book. You got nothing to lose.......
