New Member With Questions

One Thursday evening, I went for a casual(not really) test drive in a fully loaded Black on Gray/Black C63 and next thing I know, I left the Z4 at the dealer and took the C63 home. So here I am.

Things I loved about the Z4 (in no particular order):
  • Its unique look like no other
  • Convertible
  • Manual Transmission
  • Fuel Economy (almost 2x better than the C63)
Things I love about the C63 (in no particular order):
  • Power, power, and more power
  • The angry exhaust.
  • Brakes
  • Practicality - compared to the Z4 anyways
Got a few questions/comments:

1) There is a noticeable 1-2 second lag between Reverse and Drive gear. Do you guys notice this as well? Is there a fix for this? I tried searching, but no-go.

2) Bluetooth doesn't automatically integrate phonebook

3) Iphone interface isn't on the COMMAND window. I did see a post regarding some aftermarket equipment for this but for $1200, no thanks.

4) I'm really used to the signal stalk being at the 10 o'clock position. I think this is the case with most other cars. No big deal I guess but its not really standard.

Besides that, loving the power and refinement. Get lots of looks on the road - mostly from younger guys though lol.

It never ceases to amaze me how far behind MB is in the multimedia category. To the point, they just suck at it.

Even in my wife's '09 ML350 (that has the upgraded command center), only up to 1,000 contacts sync...that's it (yes, I have more than 1,000 contacts). On top of that, the sync is not dynamic, so you need to activate a new sync anytime you want to update the list.

As a comparrison, my '08 M3 synced all my contacts via bluetooth every time I turned the key (wait a minute...I didn't turn a key, that car had keyless go)

Speaking of C63 MultiMedia questions...

I really would like to take advantage of the GraceNote music register, but I don't want to spend hours copying songs from my cd's; plus, I have so many songs on my iPod that I do not have cd's for. So, is there a way to download .mp3 songs from your iPod (or flash drive or the PCMCIA card) to the GraceNote music register?

Also, if I have to transfer all my iTunes songs onto the PCMCIA card (to then use to transfer the .mp3's to the car's GraceNote Music Register), does anyone know how I do this on a desktop Window's PC (not a laptop with a PCMCIA slot)?

I have searched for this online but found nothing and the MB C63 AMG manual is horrible, imho. Thank you.

EDIT...saw the PCMCIA thread. I'm going to copy all my iTunes songs on to a 4.7GB DVD-RW and throw it into my C63's DVD slot. Before I attempt this, does anyone know if it will be able to download all the .mp3's from the DVD into the GraceNote Music Register?

Pretty sure only if you DONT have a US-spec C63. They seemed to have kindly taken this feature out for us.

Do you guys have any thoughts on the lag between Reverse and Drive? Is this the case with your C63 as well?

Not sure if I understand, but isn't it bad for the tranny to go from drive to reverse and punch it right away anyway?

Well there is a 2 second lag which is longer than I would expect. I drove my sister's 3 series and it pretty much transitions seamlessly without noticeable lag.

I'll trade you the Black on Gray/Black pics for the TSB .

Kidding about the pics, I'll take some when I get a chance. But please let me know if you find the TSB. The problem annoys me some.

nonsns3,

Sorry this is off topic as it's not an answer to your questions... but were you happy (or very happy) with the deal you got? I know this has been discussed a lot lately on this forum about rebates and getting cars well below MSRP.... but I'm in negotiations w/ 2 dealers in the Bay Area and I'm freaking out a little bit (similar to you I test drove one Sunday with no intention to buy... and now I'm about to pull the trigger). Anyways, not sure where you're from but any info would be appreciated.

Congrats on your new car!

Thanks,
Colin

congrat on the new car I had a MZ4 and it was a blast to drive but the power of the C63 is just in a totally different class.

Regarding to the tranny lag i have experienced it myself but i think its quiet normal.

sflgator,
Dont try and copy all of your itunes music onto a dvd you will end up with a real mess. You have to organise how the music gets copied to the disc.ie
Try making different folders for each artist ,Name the folder BILLY JOEL for example and the put his music into that folder, try doing a few folders onto a rewritable dvd first and see how you go.
It takes a fair while for the music register to copy the music to the car.
Also watch what format the music is in- must be mp3, mp4 and others wont work.
Cheers JB.

Mike, Did you have the coupe or convert? I had a 3.0si and even that was pretty fun.

But now I'm addicted to the C63 power and exhaust. One "problem" is that you just want to keep pushing it to hear the ferocious growl. If you guys don't hear from me one day, I'm behind bars - bring bail money.

JJB03, you were able to copy mp3s from DVD to the music register? I can't seem to find that option...Are you in the US?

Thanks...I made the copy of all my iTunes music by artist folder (all .mp3's I believe) onto a DVR-RW and inserted it into my C63's CD/DVD slot. It took it and accepted all the music (individual songs in folders by artist). So, now I can listen to all my iTunes music (at least what I currently have thus far to date) from that DVD in my C63. However, I still see no way to download that entire DVD of music onto the car's GraceNote Music Register 6GB HDD...there doesn't seem to be a transfer or copy option????? What's the point of MB giving us the GraceNote 6GB HDD if there's no way to copy the music to it?

Congrats on your new ride.

There is a way to download your contacts from your Blackberry. My dealer did it for me when I purchased the car so I can't help but it can be done.

Also, came from BMW as well and at first I kept turning cruise control on when I was trying to signal...lol.

All that stuff is minor after the accelerator is pressed...

I am planning to buy a day subscription to the www.startekinfo.com and download all the TSBs and other info. I did it last year and learned a lot. It was $18.

I had a vert and it was hell a lot of fun, probably one of the best handling convertibles outa there.

I am also having the same problem with the C63 i always wanna over take things when i am stuck behind a car on a one lane street. The sound and torque from the engine is just so addicting. Ever since i got the car i struggle to cruise at legal speed. I literaly have to purposely observing throttle carefully to keep the car at 60kph.

Got a few questions/comments:

2) Bluetooth doesn't automatically integrate phonebook

3) Iphone interface isn't on the COMMAND window. I did see a post regarding some aftermarket equipment for this but for $1200, no thanks.

4) I'm really used to the signal stalk being at the 10 o'clock position. I think this is the case with most other cars. No big deal I guess but its not really standard.

1) i dnt feel the lag, cause you c for the auto gear in mb, it does take a few seconds from selecting parking gear to d gear...and the rest..i found no problem at all
2) i dnt use my phone in the car...i found it lack of privacy...cause there is always some passanger next to me
3) i dnt care abt bloody iphone...i dnt use iphone...i use BB, and everybody from sales person to general manager are all using iphone...
4) it is really matter of time to get use to different brand of cars

Out of thousands of contacts in my BB Bold 9000, I only have a select handful that are tagged (in my BB Bold) as "Personal" category contacts; these are the only ones that get uploaded to my C63 AMG's phone list as I definitely do not want thousands of contacts uploaded to my car's phone book. There's an option your C63's phone - address book to "receive business cards;" use this and then set your BB to "transfer contacts." It worked for me. G/L.

Yes thats right, you have to send the contacts as a buisiness card via bluetooth to the car.
