I am trying to black out the emblems and was wondering how I should remove the mercedes star on the trunk lid. My understanding is that the star emblem is held in place by some tiny parts that might not work once you pull the star out? Is the proper procedure to open up the inside of the trunk to remove the star?

I've debadged my cars by using a hairy dryer and dental floss, or a thin thread.

It is my understanding the star is held in with bolt(s).



Would you be able to tape around and over the star and exacto the areas where the paint is and spray it while it's on the car? I don't do paint so I'm not sure if that's plausible. You could also try wrapping it in vinyl instead of painting it.

The star snaps in to the trunk, you are better off buying a new one from the dealer for $10.00 most likely it's going to break once you pull it out, regardless how carful you pull it, I'm telling you from experience.

Right, but I was asking if it does become loose, then will have to open up from inside to change the part that holds the star in place?

the star does snap onto your trunk but there are also 3 little plastic plugs that hold the star onto the trunk from the inside . they make sure it doesn't come loose . i just got mine from the dealer . 99% chance that they will break when taking the emblem off . better off ordering a new set . ( IMO ) you will have to go inside the trunk .

As above said three white plastic sleaves. I had assumed it had nuts on the inside when I took mine off, surprise. I was able to slide one of the sleaves off then the star was easily pulled out. I had to work a bit to get the sleave back in but the star pushed back on easily.

A little trick I did when painting mine is that I just lifted the star abd slide a peice of photo paper under the star. I was able to get it under all the star and NO car showing. Then papered off the rest of the trunk and sprayed it. It turned out good. BUT if I could not do it that way I did have extra to replace it if needed. Just try lifting the star gently and see if it will work for you as it did for me

you can also remove the emblem by cutting the pins from the inside of the trunk... remove all the trunk lining and covers and you will see the three pins simply cut them off and then use blowdryer and fishing line technique and then u wont damage the trunk. but yeah u should buy a new star and paint it.
