I found these on the front edge of the Box Top between 2 raised dots, beside the slot that Front Engine Cover clips into.

jjb03: Could you kindly/please get us these #'s from your Box Tops for reference??

Thanks in advance for your time.
Lomita: Could you please do the same so we can cross-reference?

Vadim: You were the first here to discover the extra power gained by removing the charcoals. Do you think that if we grind out the flat sections (pic # 2 & #3 above) of the air funnel, will it throw off MAF readings?
I think you will be OK.

Ususally when you change the airflow through the meter by over 20%, than the ECU throws a code.

Alright jjbo3 @ North, thanks for the work! Then I wonder if we can order them from our local Benz parts guy? It would be much cheaper if we could get funnels made.

Tks JJB! Now I need to take these #s to my local dealership and see what they make of it.

EDIT: Called the dealer and they can order them. Here are the PNs to use:

LT side A1560940306 $314
RT side A1560940406 $314

It takes 5 business days from Germany to the dealership. I wonder how these compare to the Carbonio?

Edit 8/27: Corrected ROW PNs.

Revozport: Could you please confirm if the airbox funnel in Hong Kong is the same as the one on the left. If so, do you think your company will be interested in manufacturing high-flow air funnels out of CF so we can retrofit them into our boxes? This may be an oppurtunity since all AMG 63 engine boxes in North America are the same throughout the entire product line.

Ken from Revozport responded to my PM. This is something that they may be able to do. Of course, it has to make business sense to them to reporduce the higher flow air funnels. Good thing that all 6.3 AMG engines in the Americas all use the same airbox type so there is a business opportunity for them. We just need to let them know that a demand for these funnels exist. However, this is a DIY project where you will need to Dremel out part of the black lattice frame (where the funnel meets) in order to fit the new funnels so this is not a project for the feint of heart.

That sounds about right. I'm still waiting for Germany to reply. They do like to take their time. Especially in August...LOL

Carbonio actually used this German BoxTop as a template for their CF box set then enlarged the box itself along with some wind tunnel testing for Flow Dynamics

After all of this fuss, I wonder how much of an improvement do these funnels provide?

Maybe nothing if the motor like mine is stock and the TB's only open to about 50% anyways. So maybe nothing much gained in that. Only benifit I could see is less terbulant air into the intake system because I am sure ther are huge vortex of air in that top and funnel area.

Without software upgrade to open up throttle plates to 87%, other mods will not have as much of the benefit.

Vadim what is the stock Throttle Plate (TB) opening. I was under the assumtion it was about 50%. When its tuned does it then open it to about 87%? What tune or do all tunes do that? Why not more like 95% or more?
Thanks.

Under WOT stock software opens intially to 60%, than about second later it goes down to 50%. IMHO, it is done to give initial jolt of acceleration, but ultimately is designed keep the car down to 451HP.

87% is the limit of the map. For all purposes going further probably will not yield a big increase in flow. BTW, we are taliking about two 74 mm TBs that together flow over 1500 cfm.

I am still not sure why AMG went with two TBs, they are under "cost control gun", and a single 82 mm is still cheaper than a twin 74s.

Direct injection??? SLS style IR manifold???

With these box tops in other parts of the world, the cars are listed as producing 457hp as opposed to our 451hp in the americas, i wonder if this is the reason for the difference in hp?

I thought it may have been the Higher Octane rating available in other Countries.

I don't think that is correct. I pulled up the E63, CLK BS, SL63, S63 and they all share the same PNs with the C63 (1560940506 and 1560940606). Unless there was a late year change. Andrew, do you know someone with a US spec E63 with the ROW boxes? I discovered yesterday that you can get these from the dealership (with PNs and prices) so that part is no longer a mystery.

I have been PMing Ken @ Revozport back-and-forth on the possibility of replicating these funnels. If he is willing to do it, it would be much cheaper than buying new boxes since the only differences is in the funnel. To fit these funnels, if Revozport will make them, will require you to grind out a small section of the black frame at the air tubes.

I too, thought that the 457HP was probably due to the boxes until someone brought up the octane issue. Then again, as pmknapp and Vadim mentioned, it may not do much until we have a tune.

I thought only CA and NV and maybe of couple of other states were restricted to 91 octane? While the rest of the States are higher than that? If that is true then why would they say that America is only restricted to 451 while other countries are 457? Doesn't that mean that Texas C63s are closer to 457 if not 457.
