how do you remove the charcoal filters
#28
I'm not sure I get it. If you remove the filters, you increase the airflow and hence power. But there must be a reason why those filters are there in the first place. Is there not a risk of damaging the engine if these filters are removed because of dust or mosquitos getting aspired in the engine?

Lets be honest these are not Green engines. That Gas Guzzler tax that you all paid for it says so.

well, thank you all for the tips. i'll try this over the weekend.
i had my car in today for rear tires (will update on the brand I chose--only 180 a pop and so far, great performance!).
anyhow, i asked for those filters to be removed. my dealer would not do it said it would impact emissions and may throw a light. i'm thinking bs, but whatever. i'll just do it myself.

Dealer is full of it as far as the light goes. My sales guy was able to get a tech to do it on the 'down low'.

Just did it using Sincity's DIY instructions...thanks man! It took about 20 minutes total time; the most difficult part was making sure the intake tubes (at the back) are put back so that they fit properly inside the connecting tubes with the hose clamps. The charcoal filters came out easily. In another 15,000mi. or so, I will replace my oem paper filters with BMC drop-in air filters.
btw -- Charcoal filters like the ones used as cabin air filters are used to remove odors, pollen, and such. But why have these charcoal air filters (along side the regular paper air filters) in the intake if the outside air is just getting sucked into the engine?

Perhaps you should stick to bringing your vehicle to perf. shop or dealer in the future to avoid further damage.

Are you saying you have a screw loose?
JK...
Did you miss a screw and try to force it off? How did this happen?

pulling the cover off is completely different from the screw. the cover was just to tight on the clips i did it the right way just cheep plastic, no biggie. i droped one of the screws when i was replacing them, just clumsy on my part. and yes Propain you could say i have a screw loose

Guys, you really don't need a DIY video for this. I just used Sincity's DIY instructions...it took 20min....easy!
You really don't need a video to do this. Here:
1) Remove the center section (with MB star) by lifting it up carefully.
2) Remove the T25 screws on each airbox.
3) Unscrew the hose clamp on each rubber tube.
4) Lift and pull airbox top out.
5) Turn over and remove charcoal filter (which is UNDER the oem stock paper air filter).
6) Reassemble.
Assembly tip: When screwing the tops back on, I would insert the screw and turn it (with your fingers) counter-clockwise till I feel it "click" and then turn it clockwise to start the screw. Then use your screwdriver. If you do it this way, you will not re-tap the plastic and possibly cause problems in screwing the box tops down in the future.
