I will know next Wednesday if getting it installed locally was a good idea. The mechanic that will be doing it has been modifying transmissions and differentials for 30 years...

My dealer revised his price down to CAN$4400 for the AMG differetial but I decided to go with the RennTech which is a 100% locking vs 40% for the AMG. The next move will be the RennTech stage II ECU upgrade.

RennTech OS Gilken diff installed. No noise, no problem, no warning lights :-)

It took 8 hours to take the car apart, grind the housing, install the new diff, put it back together with oil and put the cat back together. If anyone else in Montreal wants to get this done I will provide the garage info ...

Thanks for the update, if you notice anything in the next few weeks please keep us posted. I am thinking of the OS Giken myself and would really appreciate the input. Thanks....

Thanks for the info.

So the total cost with installation was more or less $4000?

Yes. Installation ended up costing CAN$650 including $50 of MB gaskets and o-rings + the part $3295 so total a bit under $4000 installed.

Its been a couple of weeks and so far so good... It took a few days (and a few hundred miles) for things to settle down which I guess is the required break-in period but now the diff is very smooth when locking occurs. At first there was a bit of "jerking"

I also installed 4 Vredestein WinTrac Xtreme which are really great. I think I am ready for the snow now :-)

So... now that you can order a C63 with the LSD as a standalone option, what route would you guys take today if you had to make the same decision about getting an LSD (for those not interested in the full PP/PP+)?

I believe the cost is $2400CAD/$2000 US + tax for the option.

Is the Quaife/OS Giken still worth the premium over the factory option?

C63 AMG Arctic w/ Stage 1 Tune, DoubleXX pipe, MCD-631X coming soon
We are a dealer of both diffs., and for all out performance the OS Giken is a great unit, however this does not mean the Quaife is not good. The Quaife is a great unit as well, and for the price? hard to beat for 85% of the C63 drivers if you ask me.

I can only relay my own perspective which is probably a bit biased :-)

I installed the locking diff for "safety" reasons having to drive the car in snow and not because I will be racing the car. At first I thought of getting the original AMG diff installed (my dealer was charging CAN$4k). Then I did some research and found that the OS Giken Diff seemed the best choice. The Quaife although very good as well was said to be more of a challenge to install.

The RennTech rep aslo told me that many AMG owners had replaced the original AMG limited slip Diff with the RennTech OS Giken model. The original AMG is a 40% locking I believe whereas the RennTech one is 100% locking.

I have been very satisfied with the mod. I have driven the car about 3500km since and have had no problems of any kind.

If I had to do it over, I would probably still go for the RennTech (OS Giken)

N/A
So out of the different available LSD kits out there which is the best and requires the least amount of modifications, and is just plug and play? Not concerned on price as a decision factor.

Who has installed any of the following in their car and can share there personal experiences.

AMG C55 LSD
AMG CLK63 Black Series LSD
RennTech OS Giken LSD
Quafie LSD
Kleeman LSD

Any other options out there I am unaware of??? Any ratio differences when doing this type of mod?

If you have specs for each such as locking % etc... that would be great.

Hello,

I installed the RennTech OS Gilken LSD a few weeks after I got the car brand new. It was not the cheapest solution but seemed to be the best one. I ordered it from Bob Brady at RennTech and got it overnight. I had it installed by a local transmission / diff garage in Montreal. It took 8 hours and cost about $650.00 for the install. Bob sent me the instructions which I gave to the garage, they seem to think it was a simple job... The original housing is retained but needs to be grinded to slide the new part in. The mod does not show and does not affect the electronics of the car. It works perfectly after a few hundred miles of "break-in".

I still have the instructions if you are interested...

Since then, I had the ECU upgraded to RennTech Stage II and installed 19" RennTech Signature 3 piece wheels. Looks and drives great :-)
